About The Role:
Ellie Diagnostics is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Logistics Supervisor to oversee the end-to-end logistics process for biological sample transportation to our diagnostics laboratory. The ideal candidate will be experienced in coordinating couriers, parcel carriers, and package aggregators, and skilled in using logistics analytics to monitor and optimize performance across our inbound sample network. About The Role:
Ellie Diagnostics is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Logistics Supervisor to oversee the end-to-end logistics process for biological sample transportation to our diagnostics laboratory. The ideal candidate will be experienced in coordinating couriers, parcel carriers, and package aggregators, and skilled in using logistics analytics to monitor and optimize performance across our inbound sample network. This role ensures that clinical specimens are delivered safely, compliantly, and on time for accurate and timely testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily inbound logistics operations for the transportation of clinical samples from client sites to the laboratory.
- Manage and monitor performance of third-party couriers, parcel carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS), and logistics aggregators to ensure adherence to transit time and handling requirements.
- Utilize logistics data and analytics tools to identify delivery trends, potential delays, and opportunities for improved routing or service.
- Ensure all shipping processes and packaging methods meet applicable regulations (e.g., DOT, IATA, OSHA) for the safe transport of biological specimens.
- Coordinate with internal departments (Client Services, Lab Operations, Sales) to align delivery logistics with testing windows and service expectations.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including turnaround times, late deliveries, and specimen integrity metrics.
- Lead, coach, and support a small team or third-party logistics partners responsible for specimen pickup and intake.
- Investigate and resolve logistics issues such as delayed or compromised samples; develop action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate shipping records, incident logs, and carrier compliance documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Health Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 3+ years of logistics or transportation experience, ideally in healthcare, diagnostics, or lab services
- Experience with courier and carrier coordination and sample shipping platforms or aggregators (e.g., Lab Logistics, Shippo, EasyPost)
- Knowledge of biological specimen transport regulations and temperature-sensitive handling requirements
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret logistics data and drive process improvement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with logistics dashboards or BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) a plus
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Experience in an accredited laboratory setting
- Familiarity with chain of custody tracking, barcode systems, or LIS integrations
- Lean, Six Sigma, or quality assurance certification a plus
