Associate Vice President Business Development | Preclinical Discovery CRO

A leading global contract research and development organization (CRO) specializing in drug discovery and preclinical development. The company partners with biopharma clients worldwide to advance small molecule therapeutics from early discovery through IND-enabling studies.
Position Overview
We are hiring for two senior-level business development roles to lead new client acquisition efforts in the U.S. One position will be responsible for the East Coast territory and the other for the West Coast. These are hunter-focused roles, responsible for driving commercial success by targeting new biotech and pharmaceutical accounts and expanding the organization’s footprint in early drug discovery and preclinical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and drive new business development initiatives within the assigned U.S. territory (East Coast or West Coast)
- Identify, qualify, and close opportunities for drug discovery and preclinical development services
- Establish and nurture relationships with key decision-makers across biotech and pharma companies
- Collaborate with internal scientific and operational teams to develop proposals and deliver compelling presentations
- Contribute to regional and national strategic plans to achieve revenue growth targets
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and client meetings
- Maintain a strong understanding of market trends and competitor activities in the drug discovery space
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree (MS) in a life sciences discipline; PhD preferred
- Extensive business development experience (ideally 7+ years) in drug discovery, with a focus on small molecules
- Proven track record of successfully selling CRO or research services to biotech/pharma clients
- Deep understanding of the drug discovery and preclinical development value chain
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and travel as required within the territory
