Bachelor’s degree preferred (preference to Facilities Management). Related experience in Facilities Management and K-12 education preferred. Minimum ten (10) years of successful administrative/supervisory experience in facilities planning, construction management or trades. Public school experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Professional certification as determined by the Superintendent or Board of Directors of the Reading School District. Specialist status through PASBO preferred or must be willing to obtain certification upon hire. Valid PA driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finer, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as equipment and chemical containers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in noisy environments. The employee must be able to drive all district vehicles. The employee is directly responsible for safety well being and work output of other people. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical buses and equipment. - Responsible for the comprehensive planning and scheduling of maintenance and repair requirements of the District.
- Establishes appropriate maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial requirements for each District building.
- Prepares line item budget estimates and provides justification for the development of the District’s custodial and maintenance budget, and maintains a comprehensive and detailed cost analysis program of departmental expenditures.
- Schedules regular inspections of buildings and grounds to determine the standards of workmanship, cleanliness, safety, fire safety and security are being maintained; Organizes and implements a program of preventative maintenance.
- Oversees and participates in the planning of renovation projects.
- Oversees construction projects.
- Supervises and recommends approval of payment of all outside contractors performing work in the District.
- Assists in the recruiting, hiring, training and scheduling of custodial and maintenance personnel; Makes recommendations for employment, discipline, promotion, demotion, additions, excessing and terminations of personnel.
- Determines and establishes detailed specifications pertaining to supplies, materials, equipment, and recommends the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Keeps informed of the latest trends, developments and products in the areas of maintenance, repair and upkeep of all maintenance custodial and safety procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, AHERA, Right to Know, Radon, lead paint, lead in drinking water, asbestos correction, and underground storage tanks.
- Collaborates with Director of Safe Schools and Director of Information Technology to review and maintain on a regular basis, all security precautions, fire alarms, and phone systems to make sure they are fully operational.
- Collaborates with the Director of Safe Schools to work with individual building principals in establishing emergency evacuation procedures for each school.
- Organizes and implements an orientation program on proper operation and maintenance of school facilities for department personnel.
- Conducts a continuing program of staff training and personnel development for custodial and maintenance staff.
- Monitors fuel consumption of District facilities.
- Reviews the preparedness of the district for the requirements and schedules of snow removal operation.
