Oracle Engineer
Title: Linux/Oracle Engineer
Location: Reno, NV-- Onsite initially, with potential for remote work after server setup. Candidates must be local and able to work onsite as needed.
Duration/Type of Job: 6+ months Possibility of extension or conversion to FTE
Key Responsibilities Job Title: Linux/Oracle Engineer
Team Environment: You will be part of a dynamic team of 7, working closely with one other Linux expert to support the Oracle NMS Project. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the successful deployment and configuration of Oracle servers.
Project Overview: Join our Oracle NMS Project team as we wrap up a critical phase involving the setup and configuration of Oracle servers. This role involves unboxing, racking, powering on, and configuring the operating system on tens of Oracle servers to prepare them for software deployment by the Oracle team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal teams to determine server placement, cabling, and power requirements.
- Unbox, rack, and power on Linux servers, ensuring they are physically ready for operation.
- Install and configure Oracle Linux (Red Hat flavor preferred) on servers.
- Manage packet management and ensure servers are configured per BHE requirements.
- Create user accounts and hand over servers to the application team for software deployment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and ensure servers are integrated into Active Directory.
- Document processes and configurations thoroughly.
- Work closely with BHE personnel to understand project requirements and execute tasks accordingly.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with Linux, Red Hat, and Oracle Linux.
- Proven experience working with Oracle applications on Linux servers.
- Familiarity with Oracle Database and Oracle products (DBA experience not required but beneficial).
- Experience with server configuration, partitioning, and user management.
- Knowledge of CarbonBlock, Tripwire, or similar security tools is a plus.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team of 7, providing support to the existing Linux resource.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work onsite as needed.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience integrating Linux servers into Active Directory.
- Previous experience in a similar role within a large-scale Oracle project.
