Job Title: Application Developer (Entry Level)
General Description: The Application Developer is an entry-level position focused on learning and supporting the company's host systems. Under the guidance of senior staff, the developer will gain proficiency in coding languages and the full lifecycle of database application development, including design, development, testing, implementation, and support.
Tasks, Duties, Functions:
- Learn coding languages to support core systems through various resources such as online classes, books, in-person training, and mentorship from experienced peers.
- Complete training assignments to enhance coding skills.
- Review, define, design, program, and implement solutions for core systems using third and fourth-generation programming languages.
- Collaborate with technical staff and business partners to understand platforms, integration points (APIs, services), and database structures.
- Perform object-oriented and structured programming based on business needs.
- Assist senior technical staff in analyzing, designing, and documenting solutions that integrate with third-party systems.
- Analyze user requirements and prepare technical design specifications.
- Evaluate and analyze data related to application development to improve performance.
- Prepare test scenarios and evaluate test results to ensure program accuracy in collaboration with the Enterprise Quality Assurance team.
- Shadow senior developers during troubleshooting of core system errors/issues and document solutions.
- Maintain knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to company compliance, including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Skills, Abilities, and Exertion:
- Effective oral and written communication skills for diagnosing and interpreting programming problems.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer terminal and other standard office equipment.
- Carry and respond to a smartphone on a rotation basis with other Programmer Analysts; may need to travel to site occasionally.
Organizational Contacts & Relationships:
- Internal: Technical managers and staff.
- External: Support personnel.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in Management Information Systems or Computer Science.
- Experience: Two years of experience in the financial industry in systems analysis.
- Knowledge/Skills:
- Experience with multi-tier software architecture, object-oriented design, requirements gathering, Agile and Waterfall SDLC.
- Understanding of core systems infrastructure (operating systems, web server, database).
- Proficiency in developing, troubleshooting, and implementing software code in two or more programming languages (e.g., C, TAL, Cache ObjectScript, TACL, Python, SQL).
- Agile experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged sitting with occasional mobility.
- Corrected vision within the normal range.
- Hearing within normal range; hearing enhancement devices provided if needed.
- Occasional movement within the department to interact with staff and accomplish tasks.
- Minimal local travel.
- Prolonged operation of a personal computer.
- May require long work hours to complete tasks.
- May require travel during projects.
