DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK

HOURS OF WORK
Must be available a minimum of 15 hours per week. Will be required to work evenings, weekends and some daytime hours. This is a year-round position.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Satisfactory completion of criminal history, physical, and a drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.

- Provides internal and perimeter security for the main library or a branch library.
- Stands in assigned area and patrols frequently on foot.
- Monitors and responds to disruptive and unauthorized activities, including excessive noise, loitering, theft, and destruction of library property.
- Opens and/or secures facility at closing.
- Works under the general direction of a supervisor in charge of the library facility.
- Performs related functions as assigned.
- Ability to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance as scheduled.
- Demonstrated personal character, temperament and judgment to effectively respond to incidents directly, or report them to police or other authority as appropriate.
- Strong verbal skills, customer service orientation and the ability to interact with the library patrons, (including young children, adolescents and teens) in a respectful, yet firm manner.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, to learn assigned tasks, and to apply rules appropriately and consistently.
- Ability to prepare written reports and records, including maintenance of a daily logbook.
- Must be able to engage in frequent standing and patrolling on foot.

- High school graduation or GED certificate required.
- Prior security-related public contact experience preferred.
- Must have valid State of Michigan driver's license with a good driving record.
- Bilingual ability is helpful.
