Position Overview

We’re seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Director of Member Outreach to lead our efforts in expanding membership across the converting industry. This role is ideal for a seasoned business development professional with deep industry knowledge and a consultative sales approach.

You won’t just be selling a list of benefits—you’ll be uncovering what matters most to potential members, identifying their business needs or opportunities, and showing how our association can help them grow, connect, and lead. You’ll meet people where they are—whether that means joining immediately, attending an event first, or engaging through education programs—then guide them toward long-term membership.

This outward-facing, senior-level role requires excellent judgment, strong business acumen, and a polished, professional presence. You’ll represent the association at key industry events, build relationships with decision-makers and influencers, and play a central role in shaping the strategy behind our outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive membership growth by building trusted relationships, identifying needs and opportunities, and delivering compelling, tailored pitches based on how the association can meet those needs.
  • Apply a consultative, value-based sales approach to guide potential members toward engagement—whether through immediate membership or progressive steps such as event attendance or training participation.
  • Identify and engage decision-makers and key stakeholders at converter and supplier organizations; tailor outreach and messaging based on their unique priorities and position in the buying process.
  • Represent the association at trade shows, conferences, and industry events; manage exhibiting logistics and make strategic recommendations about which events to attend and how to maximize impact.
  • Promote memberships, event participation, sponsorship opportunities, and thought leadership programs as part of a comprehensive outreach strategy.
  • Conduct Voice of Customer research and contribute to industry surveys that inform content, services, and member value.
  • Collaborate on event program development by identifying target geographies and topics relevant to current and prospective members.
  • Influence content strategy by identifying speakers and authors for our events and publications; guide editorial direction based on industry trends and member interests.
  • Coordinate with aligned associations and event partners to amplify our reach and relevance in the industry.
  • Track outreach activities and relationship progress in CRM tools and report regularly on KPIs related to membership and revenue growth.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in business development, outside sales, or strategic partnerships—preferably in the converting, packaging, battery, or related manufacturing sectors.
  • Deep knowledge of the roll-to-roll converting industry and an ability to speak the language of converters and suppliers.
  • Proven success in value-based or consultative selling environments, with the ability to identify business needs and articulate how a product or service delivers on them.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence a range of stakeholders, from technical experts to senior executives.
  • High level of professionalism, executive presence, and confidence in representing an organization externally.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to shape and evolve outreach approaches based on market needs and organizational priorities.
  • Skilled at navigating long sales cycles and guiding prospects toward engagement over time.
  • Proficient in CRM tools for tracking relationships, activities, and pipeline progress.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (20-40%), including international travel, to attend industry events, prospect meetings, and networking opportunities.

Why Join Us?

  1. Make a meaningful impact by helping our member organizations grow and thrive.
  2. Work in a collaborative, mission-driven team environment.
  3. Enjoy flexibility and exposure to a diverse network of industry leaders.
