About the Position: Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking an Unpaid intern for the Strength and Conditioning Program for the Summer of 2025. The candidate must require a flexible schedule and the hours will consist of 25-30 hours a week with a variety of working morning and afternoons. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of techniques necessary to implement a high school aged athletic development program for highly competitive athletes and teams including some experience in many the following: anthropometric and performance testing, periodization principles, free and Olympic weight training techniques, flexibility training, integration of applicable recovery strategies, corrective exercise and speed development programs.

The Unpaid intern will report to the Director of Strength and Conditioning and will participate in weekly projects and professional development activities throughout the unpaid intern ship program. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded and engaging person who will facilitate growth and collaboration inside and outside of the weight room. The unpaid intern will gain experience working for a nationally competitive high school, have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities, and receive college credit if applicable as well as gain experience with Hawkin Dynamics Force Plates, Brower Timing Gates, Teambuildr, Vitruve VBT, and Catapult GPS. Previous interns in this position have gone directly into graduate assistantship positions at the collegiate level and full time positions. This is an unpaid internship.

Primary Areas Of Responsibility

  • Implement, conduct, and monitor strength and conditioning programs for multiple sport programs
  • May coordinate student-athlete rehabilitation with sports medicine and assist with rehabilitation of injured athletes
  • Support and promote education for student-athletes about nutrition and supplementation
  • Assist with coordinating, maintenance, staffing, and safety of weight room/strength facilities; assist in scheduling weight room training for various programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning equipment
  • Interpersonal/human relations skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of state rules and regulations
  • Timely and enthusiastic attitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Former or current athlete
  • Strong desire to become a strength and conditioning professional.
  • Completion of or working toward a bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field supplemented with some related experience
  • Completion of or working toward one or more of the following certifications: SCCC, CSCS, or USAW
  • CPR certification

  • Excellent organization, communication, and computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programming.
  • Experience with team/large group training
  • Understanding of team dynamics and team chemistry to build workouts
  • Knowledge of sports psychology including goal setting, visualization, and positive mental attitude
  • Understanding of the Saint Ignatius mission and formation of the whole person within athletics and wellness
  • Understanding of how athletics and wellness develop the whole person in harmony with other aspects of the educational process
  • Ability to understand the balance among academics, sports and service to make efficient use of student-athlete time
