Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of People Operations to support our partner, a mission-driven veterinary healthcare organization! This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity located in New York!
We’re seeking a strategic, hands-on, and compassionate HR leader to help scale people initiatives across a multi-site organization that’s redefining pet healthcare. The ideal candidate brings deep HR business partnership experience, thrives in high-growth environments, and is passionate about building an engaging, high-performing culture that supports veterinary professionals across the U.S.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and develop a team of HR Business Partners to support clinic leaders and central teams, aligning people strategies with operational goals.
- Oversee learning & development programs for veterinary, clinic, and HQ teams across all career stages, from onboarding to leadership development.
- Drive employee engagement and retention efforts, including wellness initiatives, employee surveys, and culture-building programs.
- Support workforce planning and talent development across a national, multi-location environment.
- Champion employee relations and change management while maintaining a culture rooted in compassion, inclusion, and high performance.
- Evaluate the impact of people programs using data and continuously iterate based on insights and outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of progressive HR leadership experience in healthcare, veterinary, or retail environments; multi-site preferred.
- Proven success in scaling people strategies in high-growth, operationally complex environments (PE-backed experience a plus).
- Expertise in HR business partnership, learning and development, and employee engagement.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to build trust and influence across all levels of the organization.
- Bachelor's degree required; HR certifications (SHRM-SCP, SPHR) strongly preferred.
- Tech-savvy and data-driven with experience using HRIS, LMS, and analytics platforms.
- Empathetic, collaborative, and passionate about improving the employee experience—and pets!
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity offering a base salary of $170,000–$200,000, with a bonus target of 17.5% (up to 35%) and equity. The role also includes a robust benefits package, such as:
