Role Compensation Project Manager Contract Remote
Overview: We are seeking an experienced Compensation Project Manager to lead and execute compensation-focused transformation projects. This is a senior-level, hands-on consulting role requiring deep functional expertise in compensation along with client-facing experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver compensation transformation projects focused on:
  • Job architecture and salary structures
  • Market benchmarking and analysis

  • Advise clients across public sector and higher education institutions
  • Develop project plans and present options with pros/cons for leadership decision-making
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of compensation professionals
  • Mentor junior team members through hands-on guidance and example
  • Engage in storytelling to explain compensation changes and drive stakeholder buy-in
  • Work across clients in multiple U.S. time zones with minimal travel requirements

Required Skills:

  • Deep expertise in compensation strategy, structure, and policy
  • Experience with job systems (e.g., JDXpert) and compensation survey tools (e.g., PayScale, Salary.com, CompAnalyst, Payfactors)
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills for analysis and presentation
  • Proven success in client-facing roles with consulting or in-house experience
  • Ability to lead and execute complex workstreams with minimal oversight
  • Clear, concise communication and ability to tell the "compensation story to non-HR audiences
  • Experience working across distributed teams in a remote or hybrid model

Preferred:

  • Prior consulting experience in public sector or higher education
  • Executive compensation or pay equity experience
  • Exposure to sales and proposal development (for consulting firms)
