Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
The CAMBA Education Center offers Computer Literacy classes to individuals who are at least 16 years old, who are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in the New York City public school system, and who live or work in the Flatbush/East Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, New York. The CAMBA Education Center is a Northstar Digital Literacy site. In general, we teach individuals typing skills and how to safely navigate the Internet. We train individuals in using Smartphones, Microsoft Office, and Google products. We also provide learners with the type of case management, career counseling, and technical services that can help them realize their family, educational, employment, and/or other personal goals.

What The Computer Literacy Volunteer Does
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Part-time (3 hours per week) (Shifts: 9AM-12PM or 1PM-4PM)

What The Computer Literacy Volunteer Does
- Collaborate with the Adult Education Teacher to reinforce learning.
- Help students with work or school projects.
- Help students develop basic digital/computer skills.
- Supplement classroom instruction and conduct tutoring services with individual students or small groups.
- Conduct educational or interactive exercises with individuals and/or groups.
- Promote the use of library resources.
- Help students identify and utilize supplemental media resources.
- Participate in Northstar Digital Literacy workshops.
- Volunteers are encouraged to attend staff meetings and onsite professional development sessions when available.
- Volunteers may choose to explore professional publications or resources to stay informed about current teaching methods and best practices.
- Be at least 19 years old.
- Ability to communicate at college level.
- Be comfortable using computer equipment, smart phones, and the Internet.
- Have a commitment to helping people improve their skills.
- Have good interpersonal skills. Experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
- Literacy in other Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Have a background or interest in digital literacy or adult education. (Preferred Not Required)
- Possession of Digital/Computer Literacy teaching certificate or degree. (Preferred Not Required)
- Bilingual in either French, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian. (Preferred Not Required)
- Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree. (Preferred Not Required)
