A leading motor vehicle company is seeking a Regulatory Counsel to consult with the Automotive Safety Office and Product Development teams to ensure compliance with NHTSA and internal company guidelines. This is a 6 month, full-time, 40 hour / week contact. This role is fully remote.

The Regulatory Attorney is responsible for attending weekly meetings to review proposed vehicle program actions, discussing proposed new vehicle technology, drafting, and editing communications going to customers, dealers, and government agencies, and reviewing advertising for compliance issues. In addition, the Regulatory Attorney supervises and manages legal assistants.

Scope of Work

  • Title: Regulatory Counsel (Secondment)
  • Experience: 5+ Years
  • Location: Remote (United States)
  • Hours: 40 Hours / Week
  • Duration: 6 Months (From 5/19/2025 until 11/19/2025)
  • Pay Rate: $100 - $115 / hour ($200,000 - $230,000 annualized)
  • Benefits: Vision, medical, dental, 401k (all 99% covered)

RESPONSIBILIES

Client Counseling

  • Determining whether product issues require safety or compliance recalls and other field
  • service actions;
  • Advising on potential regulatory risks and issues with new product designs;
  • Working closely with Marketing and Communications on proposed advertisements; and Advising Product Development on new accessories to ensure compliance with safety regulatory requirements.

Document Drafting

  • Work with the Automotive Safety Office and Customer Service Division to draft communications to customers, dealers, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
  • Advise on responses to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration formal investigations and informal inquiries and discussions with these agencies focusing on compliance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
  • Expertise – The Regulatory Attorney will develop a broad knowledge of the Company on various subject matters, including product development, engineering, safety, and marketing.

Required Skills

  • Strong writing skills, including persuasive writing;
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;
  • High level of analytical, project management and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of applicable law relating to NHTSA regulatory and compliance;
  • Demonstrate time and task management skills, including ability to multi-task; and
  • Proficient in MS Office products and Adobe Acrobat.

  • At least 5 years of legal experience with a focus on product litigation and regulatory compliance.
