SQL/EDW Architect

Our Client is requiring a seasoned professional with over 12 years of experience in MSSQL database management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in MSSQL database architecture, migration to AWS EC2, and familiarity with CLR and SSIS. This role is critical for ensuring the integrity, availability, and performance of the database systems, as well as implementing best practices for database management and disaster recovery. The candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, and patching MS SQL Server databases, while also addressing security violations and performing regular maintenance tasks such as backups and integrity checks. In addition to the core responsibilities, the SQL Architect will design and implement disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime for on-premises installations. The role also involves managing and automating backup processes using both native and third-party tools. Monitoring database performance is essential, and the candidate will need to proactively tune databases, optimize SQL queries, and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure high availability and fast response times. The position requires a good understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS), including EC2, RDS, VPC, S3, and various backup services. The SQL Architect will also be tasked with configuring and monitoring replication strategies to ensure data availability across different environments, troubleshooting high availability and replication issues, and implementing high-availability solutions such as SQL Server clustering and Always-On Availability Groups.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch MS SQL Server databases.
- Resolve security violations on MSSQL servers/DB.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backups, indexing, and integrity checks.
- Design, implement, and regularly test disaster recovery plans to ensure minimal downtime on on-premises installations.
- Manage and automate backup processes, ensuring data availability and integrity, using native and 3rd party backup tools like Rubrik, AWS Backup service, and S3.
- Work closely with DW manager to ensure prioritization of corporate and departmental objectives and
- Provide assistance to DW team members with issues needing technical expertise or complex systems and/or programming knowledge. Provide on-the-job training for new or less experienced team members.
- Monitor database performance and proactively tune databases, optimizing SQL queries, indexes, and configurations.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring high availability and fast response times.
- Design, implement, and manage high-availability solutions, including SQL Server clustering, Always-On Availability Groups, and database mirroring.
- Configure and monitor replication strategies such as transactional replication, merge replication, and log shipping to ensure data availability across environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve high availability and replication issues, minimizing downtime and data loss.
Required experience:
- 12+ years of experience with MSSQL database management
- Excellent work experience in MSSQL database architecture and migration to AWS EC2
- 8+ years of design, development, and support experience within Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later
- 8+ years of experience with BI Technology: SQL, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Power BI
- 5+ years of ETL or ELT development experience in the use of the Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) platform and/or Data Transformation Services (DTS)
- Worked hands-on migrating stored procedures in MySql
- T-SQL Coding: Write, optimize, and troubleshoot T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views to perform tasks such as data retrieval, data modification, and data manipulation.
- Demonstrated SQL query creation, performance tuning, and troubleshooting experiences
- Prior experience in moderate large SQL Server environments required database size exceeding 1TB, with table sizes in the 100 s of millions of records or greater
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
- Healthcare industry experience is a BIG plus
