Summary: The purpose of this position is to be responsible for all aspects of the college athletic department with the ultimate responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive, experience for student athletes that enrich their experience leading to greater satisfaction, success, and retention. The Director provides leadership and helps establish goals for the athletic department; manages and directs all aspects of the college’s intercollegiate athletic teams, club sports, and athletic training contract; develops and maintains community partnerships and creates new partnerships in the community that assist in advancing athletic department fundraising; oversees all athletic department facilities and budgets; administers all National Junior College Athletic Association and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference reports and ensures compliance with rules and regulations; coordinates and manages athletics marketing and branding; and serves as a key member of the college’s leadership team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs all aspects of the college intercollegiate athletic teams, club sports, and athletic training contract. Responsible for hiring, orientation, and training personnel. Attends and manages all home athletic events (or assigns a designee) as well as attends National Junior College Athletic Association and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference meetings. Administers all National Junior College Athletic Association and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference reports and ensures compliance with rules and regulations. Provides leadership and helps establish goals for the athletic department. Ensures alignment and execution of the IVCCD Pillars of Athletics which include creating a positive and engaging student experience through athletic participation and community outreach; assisting student athletes with reaching academic, leadership, and athletic competitive goals; modelling professionalism to student athletes on and off the field and court; and recruiting and retaining student athletes to meet roster expectations. Responsible for athletic department budgets including operating, scholarship, fundraising, and camp accounts. Also manages budgets of the Student Activity Center and concession operation. Manages and directs all aspects of athletic facilities and equipment including cross country trail, ball diamonds, soccer field, gymnasiums and the Activity Center.
  • Develops and maintains community partnerships and creates new partnerships in the community that assist in advancing athletic department fundraising.
  • Serves as a key member of the college leadership and administrative committees including participation in college promotional, recruitment retention, and campus life events.
  • Coordinates and manages athletics marketing and branding in collaboration with the marketing department. Major projects involve maintaining department website, social media, and live streams and creating new marketing programs to increase fan participation.
  • Oversees district beverage and snack vending contract. Manages college’s campus vending auxiliary to ensure the campus snack and beverage needs are met. Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.
  • Works and communicates professionally with others. Performs in a manner which benefits student learning. Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Three years coaching and/or athletic administrative responsibilities preferred.

Base Wage: $72,900-$97,000 annually - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
