The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. The American School for the Deaf is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth, and their families in development of intellect and the enhancement of quality of life utilizing specially designed instruction through an American Sign Language and English Bilingual Approach, empowering them to become educated and self-directed life-long learners.
ASD is located in West Hartford, a town recognized as one of the top ten towns for raising families. West Hartford residents value education, evidenced by the high quality of public and private schools. There is also much to do in West Hartford. There is a wide array of parks and recreation. There are pools and hiking trails. There are historic sites to visit as well. If shopping is on the list, then Blue Back Square, located in the center of town, offers many retail stores and a variety of restaurants to satisfy everyone.
SCHEDULE
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Student Affairs, drives school vehicle for the purpose of transporting students.
Primary Duties
Compensation range is based on experience.
Retirement, group health insurance, and other fringe benefits are available.
$1000 sign on bonus for new employees after one year of service.

SCHEDULE
- Monday – Sunday with one day full day off during the week.
- Hours will vary morning, afternoon and evening depending upon driving schedule.
- Each Friday and Sunday are required days of work due to transportation needs of the students.
- Driving to neighboring states is routine.

- Check and prepare vehicle for trip readiness (phones, credit cards, etc.)
- Safely drive students to and from home to school.
- Complete end of trip report.
- Participate in training as required by school.
- Communicate with students, staff, and parents as appropriate.
- Vehicle maintenance such as cleaning, transporting to service centers and/or state inspections.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- CDL-C Commercial License with “V” or "S" Endorsement for Student Transportation Vehicles.
- Air Brake endoresement required.
- Current Medical Card.
- Ability to load and unload luggage.
- Excellent driving record.
- Flexible hours (i.e. nights and weekends to fit the transportation needs of the school including evening field trips, sports away games- usually from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, quarterly tournaments occasionally out-of-state requiring overnight stay, unscheduled or last-minute appointments etc.).
- Sign Language Skills preferred.
