Summary Of Position

The Plastic Injection Molding Process Technician will set-up and cycle Plastic Injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and adjust process parameters while ensuring proper machine function and quality parts. Additionally, the PIM Process Technician conducts production start-ups, material handling, MRP system transactions, quality checks of own work, periodic tooling preventative maintenance, and supports machine preventive maintenance.

Essential Functions Includes but not limited to:

  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech sets and starts up, troubleshoots, and monitors injection molding machines and related equipment to ensure quality production
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech dimensionally and visually inspects on-going production for defects
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech adjusts machine parameters and cycle times for wide range of plastic materials to ensure proper quality and function of parts
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech ensures part/material containment measures are implemented
  • Troubleshoots molding issues
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech conducts Root Cause Analysis of factors affecting overall product quality, as well as support QC as a process expert
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech notifies production supervisor and maintenance of any issues with equipment or molds
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech monitors machine operating software for stoppages, improper cycling, product color changes, and mold changes
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech enters all scrap into the production monitoring system; weigh and document all purging before disposing
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech documents and communicates any process adjustments required
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech communicates machine operating conditions, part or process issues, safety issues and resolutions to next shift
  • Must be disciplined and be able to adhere to processes and procedures
  • Must be able to operate a computer, calipers, understand basic gauges, and hand tools
  • Working understanding of MRP systems and be able to review and communicate causes of downtime or scrap
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech performs mold and material changeovers per customer orders
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech performs periodic preventative maintenance on injection molds
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech programs robot for part extraction and automated packaging.
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech collaborates with Engineering teams to:
  • Implements training programs for new and existing molds and injection molding equipment
  • Develops experiments to optimize equipment throughput and yield
  • Determines production needs related to process and other technical issues
  • Plastic Injection Molding Process Tech collaborates with the mold design team and external suppliers on mold improvements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude including comfort with using basic hand tools. Ability to perform minor machining work (manual mill/lathe, tap and die, etc

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education or trade school diploma program
  • 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing and/or machine operation experience
  • 3-5 years of plastic injection molding experience as material handler and process technician
  • Understands and can interpret part and tooling prints and diagrams
  • Working knowledge of calipers, micrometers and other measuring equipment
  • An ability to communicate effectively in English both in writing and verbally
  • Knowledge of robots (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Detail-oriented
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities, Lean, 5S and Kaizen events
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and push equipment or mold carts with casters
  • Frequent standing for extended periods, walking from one job to another, occasional climbing of ladders or rolling stairs may be required
