Position Overview:

This position provides overall direction and leadership of the strategic direction of health information management (HIM). The Director of HIM will manage these objectives for Majestic management and affiliated facilities by supporting existing systems and structure and collaborating to identify and find new technologies and initiatives. This position is responsible for the ongoing process design related to HIM services for the organization and responsible to optimize the department objectives, values, and systemization. This Director level position will network with other organizations and be a champion for change for Majestic Care and Bluegrass related to the integrated medical record, precision, and integrity. The Director of HIM will be professional and collaborate among peers, subordinates, and executives within the organization is a requirement of this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will possess advanced skills in leadership, leading others by inspiring them to perform at the top of their licensure. You will collaborate with other professionals within and externally to the organization focused on policies, procedures, and oversight directly related to HIM and medical records.
  • As a leader you will possess and demonstrate passive and active listening skills to fully understand others and incorporate the concerns voiced at the point-of-care into your solutions across the enterprise related to HIM. This includes acting as an advisor and liaison to all roles within the communities and corporation.
  • You are required to effectively communicate horizontally and vertically across the organization, effectively articulating, writing, and expressing your concerns and interests to those who report to you, those who work parallel, and the executives within the organization.
  • You will collaborate interdepartmentally with the Senior Director of Medical Records to ensure medical record personnel are equipped, trained, and supported.
  • This position requires dynamic management skills to oversee, lead, and direct services of third (3rd) party vendor partnerships, such as other medical information, data feed integrations, and partnerships within the operation.
  • The Director of HIM designs, implements, and supports HIM shared services, operational planning and updates, service level agreements, workflow strategies to meet local, state, and federal governance, and ensures internal controls on these objectives.
  • You will be proficient in escalating your concerns, observations, and recommendations to the correct roles across the enterprise and throughout interconnected partnerships that influence your ability to create excellence in the medical records and HIM strategy.
  • In your role and duties you will promote HIM shared services across all communities and be responsible to set the standards as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet, and exceed customer expectations and needs.
  • The Director of HIM will form and sustain a meaningful partnership with compliance focused on regulatory and accreditation agencies in concert with the rules for HIM including monitoring new rules and interpretations to sustain compliance. You will participate in surveys, correspondence, and solution for challenges through action plans or other project implementation documents.
  • This role must work interprofessionally to innovate the HIM objectives partnering with administration, physicians, and other medical and hospital personnel, regulatory surveys and surveyors as necessary.
  • The Director of HIM serves the organization as a subject matter expert, sustaining processes and procedures to help others reach the highest level of compliance and performance around the department objectives and duties.
  • You will lead, mentor, and manage monitoring plans to ensure physician compliance with regulatory compliance and collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer within Majestic to accomplish tasks and sustain compliance.
  • You will focus on developing other medical records professionals to perform at the top of their license and mentor them to be ready for a new role, elevated position, and future career advancements if the opportunity becomes available.
  • You will possess the skills to partner with others during electronic health record applications, support, new initiatives, and enhancements. Your goal is to make the complexity and intricacies of HIM palatable for operations to adopt, consume, and comply with mandatory tasks and best practices you and other stakeholders identify.
  • Fosters a culture of service excellence which anticipates and responds to the needs of our residents.
  • Ensures and protects the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • You will coordinate, evaluate, assess, and analyze medical records requests such as insurance requests, regulatory, or risk management.
  • This role will be responsible to oversee and ensure procurement, organization, and tracking credentialing information for providers.
  • The Director of HIM interdepartmentally collaborates with nursing informatics, IT department, and vendors/3rd party partners, focused on new projects and acquisitions and facility configurations and implementation of processes.
  • Collaboratively serve within your department as a subject matter expert of system administration, monitoring utilization and optimization of electronic systems and platforms.
  • You will serve as a designee within the medical records department to insert, approve, and sustain security level access for internal and external users of electronic health records systems.
  • Successfully completes the facility required training, and any role specific and department/professional continuing education and licensing requirements.
  • Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.
  • Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
  • Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
  • Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
  • Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned and within scope of practice.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for hiring, training, development, and corrective action as needed to any and all dietary support roles across the enterprise.
  • Oversee, manage and lead third (3rd) party partnerships that supplement staffing needs across the entire nutritional services department and enterprise.
  • Direct oversight and management of food supply chain.
  • Directly leads and manages the director level positions that govern operations and food service excellence.
  • Preparation and ongoing management of fiscal budgets and parameters impacting nutritional services.


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of healthcare management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret established policies into operating procedures.
  • Strongly familiar with post-acute care rules and regulations and the governing body oversight including home health, hospice, skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively various functions and activities for maximum cooperation and efficiency.
  • Ability and skills to direct, instruct and advise team members.
  • Ability to receive and effectively react to day-to-day problems presented by team members as well as others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, nursing informatics, or health information administration.
  • HIM related certification (RHIA or RHIT) or current pursuit of a certification
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in health information operations is preferred


Other Special Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel as needed.
