Operations Manager - Construction

Job Description

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Operations Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

• Personnel
• Train, supervise, develop and review General Superintendent and Project Management staff, as applicable.
• Review pay increases/decreases, bonuses, etc., for personnel with the CEO.
• Coordinate the hiring and layoff of personnel with CEO.
• Operations (Project & Field)
• Oversee contract values, budget, projected cost, change orders, billing and collections. Hold teams accountable to these being accurate and managed correctly.
• Monitor job progress to ensure that goals for budget, schedule and customer satisfaction are attained.
• Guide project teams on major issues regarding customers, schedules, and key performance indicators.
• Ensure that the staff are following standard operating procedures, or developing improvements if needed, around procurement and payroll administration.
• Partner with the General Superintendent to develop field personnel capabilities to ensure the workforce has the skills necessary to perform efficiently including technical skills, technological skills, collaboration, etc.
• Participate in project set up, kick-off and closeout processes.
• Maintain effectiveness and morale of the field force though visible leadership. Communicate Company vision/goals and monitor field activities to assure that work is being performed accordingly.
• Verify that the field force conforms to Company standards for labor reporting and other administrative requirements, including daily production tracking.
• Lead strategic discussion on how to improve profit margins. Ensure project team(s) are seeking profit opportunities through better means & methods, proper sequencing, and increased productivity.
• Establish regular communication with Project Executive (or key decision-maker) to be able to work through issues as they may arise.
• Financial
• Maximize gross profit margins, over-billings and collections.
• Ensure that change order requests are converted in a timely manner.
• Review and manage job cost weekly and ensure accuracy.
• Prepare for and participate in the monthly oversight meetings where you will report on KPIs.
• Understands and utilizes the Work In Place and Volume Projection reports.
• Other Duties
• Ensure discipline to LEAN in your region.
• Implement and enforce the Safety Program in conjunction with the Risk and Safety team.
• Contribute to the business plan discussion for the region.
• Sources, and is able to manage, new product lines for the company.
• Represent Green Source at industry, community and customer events.
• Coordinate training for foreman either formally, or on the job, in safety, administration, project management and human relation issues. Work with company resources.
• Meet with customers to ensure that processes are effective and build lasting relationships.
• Promote proactive management to team through leadership, organization, discipline, goal setting and use of policies and procedures.
• Verify that estimating group receives accurate feedback from Project Management through project post-analysis regarding construction methods, production rates and real project conditions.
• Partner with estimating by providing feedback on outgoing proposals.
