Job Description for an Ignition SCADA Architect/Project Lead:
Purpose: Client is seeking an experienced Ignition SCADA Architect/Project Lead to enhance Ignition architecture for efficient data transmission from one of our pipe manufacturing customers' shop floor to Azure-hosted Databricks for advanced analytics and operational optimization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SCADA systems, data integration, and cloud-based analytics platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Review Current Architecture: Analyze the existing Ignition SCADA system, which includes seven Ignition gateways, and identify areas for improvement
- Data Transmission: Develop methods for efficient and reliable data transmission from Oakboro plant floor to Azure Blob storage and Databricks
- Integration: Design and implement integration approaches to move data from the plant to Azure Blob storage and back to the plant for consumption by Ignition and Tableau
- UNS Structure: Evaluate and enhance the current UNS structure to provide context and semantics before moving data to Azure
- MQTT Broker: Discuss and identify the best use of Azure IoT Hub as the subscriber to the MQTT Broker on the Ignition Central Gateway
- Analytical Data Flow: Ensure analytical data flows back into the Data Lake for consumption by operations
- Documentation: Provide detailed breakdowns of options, methodologies, and technologies required to achieve project goals
- Project Planning: Develop high-level project plans with key milestones, including architecture review, solution proposal, implementation phases, and testing
Qualifications:
- Experience: 10+ years' experience in Ignition SCADA, OT/IT integrations, PLC/DCS systems, and IoT
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Ignition SCADA systems, MQTT, Azure IoT Hub, Databricks, SQL Server, Postgres with Timescale DB, and Tableau
- Analytical Skills: Ability to design data structures and methods for efficient data curation and analytics
- Architecture Skills: Highly experienced in understanding scalability issues with Ignition SCADA, assessing existing architecture, tag hierarchies, network topologies, gateway configurations, server/compute infrastructure and suggesting scalable architecture for future, considering tag, data, and user growth
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders
- Project Management: Ability to develop and manage project plans, timelines, and deliverables
