DeltaV Specialist with a Pharma Background
Job Description:
The Small-Scale Organics (SSO) Pilot Plant is a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facility within
the Process Research and Development (PR&D) organization which enables gain of critical internal
experience during scale-up of clinical supplies manufacturing, demonstration of new manufacturing
technology/processes, training opportunities for improved manufacturing process development,
and seamless technology transfer to commercial sites. The SSO Pilot Plant is seeking a highly
motivated and technically focused individual to work in a fast-paced job that provides a high degree
of technical and project management responsibility.
This SSO Automation Engineer role within the SSO Pilot Plant leverages scientific, technical, and
operational experience to support facility operations, process development activities, compliance
investigations and change management processes. The position is responsible for implementing
automation changes that meet Safety and Environment (S&E) and GMP requirements as well as
ensuring facility readiness for batch processing. In addition, this position is expected to work
cooperatively with the SSO partners to drive overall success of the pilot plant.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor s degree in Engineering Discipline (Computer Science, Chemical or Electrical
preferred) with Pharmaceutical Sciences or related industries with minimum of 3-5 years
relevant experience.
Primary Skills
Working under the direction of the SSO Pilot Plant Senior Automation Lead, help develop
automation solutions and manage the technical deployment in collaboration with internal
partners.
Ensure a common way of working and standardization of solutions across all Pilot plant
operating Bays.
Help lead investigations of automation incidents and problems to prevent recurrence
including the development and implementation of corrective actions (root cause analysis).
Evaluate automated systems and develop strategies to optimize and ensure the quality and
stability of automation systems through future expansion, replacement, or upgrade.
On-floor support of Pilot Plant manufacturing / maintenance activities.
Execute change management to document modifications SSO Pilot Plant Automation
Systems.
Coordinate preventative maintenance of SSO Pilot Plant Automation Systems with
automation system vendors.
Generate Validation documents consistent with the Merck SDLC including but not limited to
validation plans, test plans, requirement specifications, functional requirements
specification, traceability matrices, and qualification documents.
Partner with process \ operations teams to develop and test new or update existing
functionality for SSO Pilot Automation Systems.
Participate in a regular rotation for on-call support of the SSO Pilot Plant Automaton
Systems.
Your profile
Experience in Industrial Automation, I&C, SCADA systems and DeltaV.
At least 2 years experience in a highly regulated manufacturing environment, such as
pharma, biotechnology, food or chemicals (cGMP and cGDP).
At least 3 years experience of DeltaV configurations . development / deployment
Experience with Rockwell software, AB PLC, HMI, and Level-0 instrumentation.
Experience with automation system architecture, design, start-up, and/or qualification.
Experienced problem solver/troubleshooter, skilled in root cause analysis.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written in English
