We’re looking for an experienced, innovative, and passionate Executive Editor to help build on the revolution that is Bloom adding just a touch of something new—the launch of Cosmo Reads, an exciting new imprint created in collaboration with Cosmopolitan.

This role is ideal for a strategic thinker, trend-savvy editorial powerhouse, and above all—a romance and pop culture fanatic. You'll be responsible for acquiring, shaping, and championing stories that spark obsession and cultural conversation. As Executive Editor, you’ll help scale two powerhouse romance brands—Bloom Books and Cosmo Reads—while supporting a new generation of emotionally rich, binge-worthy fiction.

This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI. Some travel is required to our Naperville headquarters and industry events.

This is an exempt, salaried position with an annual salary between $90,000 - $110,000 for the Chicagoland area. We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications.

What You’ll Do

Work with the Best Authors

  • Shape the future of the Bloom Books list, helping to expand its reach across contemporary, fantasy, paranormal, historical, and spicy romance subgenres
  • Drive the creative and strategic direction of the Cosmo Reads imprint in partnership with Cosmopolitan editors, identifying bold, inclusive, and commercially viable stories that align with the Cosmo brand and resonate with modern romance readers
  • Establish and maintain high editorial standards across both imprints through thoughtful manuscript development and author partnership

Acquire & Develop Breakout Fiction

  • Proactively scout and acquire titles with high commercial and cultural potential, with a focus on emotionally resonant romance and romance-driven fiction
  • Deeply edit manuscripts for structure, voice, pacing, and character development—partnering with authors through revisions to ensure each book is unforgettable
  • Cultivate long-term author and agent relationships, creating pathways for career-defining success

Grow Cosmo Reads

  • Act as the editorial lead for Cosmo Reads, coordinating internally and externally to ensure strong alignment between brand identity, editorial tone, and publishing goals
  • Collaborate with marketing, publicity, and digital teams to shape go-to-market strategies that amplify visibility and reader engagement
  • Stay ahead of pop culture and media trends, ensuring the Cosmo Reads list is buzzworthy, relevant, and conversation-starting

Collaborate Cross-Functionally

  • Work closely with design, marketing, publicity, sales, and production teams to position titles for maximum reach and sales performance
  • Lead and participate in editorial meetings, acquisitions boards, and cross-functional planning initiatives
  • Mentor junior editors and contribute to the growth and development of the Bloom Books editorial team

What You Bring To The Table

  • 7+ years of editorial experience in trade publishing, with a proven track record acquiring and editing bestselling commercial fiction—romance and/or pop culture-infused fiction a major plus
  • A deep love of romance, from spicy to sweet, and a fluency in pop culture—TV, TikTok, celebrity news, fan communities, and viral trends are your native tongue
  • A strong network of agent and author relationships, and a sharp eye for new talent and underserved niches in the market
  • Exceptional developmental editing skills with the ability to balance big-picture story shaping with attention to line-level detail
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to juggle multiple high-profile projects under tight deadlines
  • Experience launching or helping grow an imprint is a bonus
