Foundries.io was recently acquired by Qualcomm Innovation Center as an independent subsidiary. We enable OEMs across multiple industries to manage the software life cycle for secure embedded devices based on Linux. FoundriesFactory is a SAAS platform that provides OEMs with tools to develop, deploy and maintain secure IoT & Edge devices, with key value propositions of accelerating time to market, simplifying security, and substantially reducing lifetime software costs. Successful deployments, ranging from Tier 1 OEMs to fast moving startups in multiple market segments, have proved our product market fit.

As a Principal Engineer, you will work with the Foundries.io platform engineering team on open source software, and work with other Qualcomm engineers working on open source projects. You will be responsible for upstream deliverables into IoT and Edge related projects including the Linux kernel, Yocto/OE, security software and boot firmware, and for providing support as needed by Qualcomm partners and customer applications of our platform technology. You will also have the opportunity to lead projects and teams within the Foundries engineering activities. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

4+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
  • Proven track record of managing teams working upstream and downstream
  • Strong understanding of embedded software, SAAS and Linux
  • Knowledge of key SoM vendors, ODMs, and distribution channels for SoC vendors
  • Excellent technical, communication and engineering management skills
  • Experience in managing relationships with key partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Based in US (West Coast preferred), EU or UK
  • Willingness to travel globally as needed (likely several times per year)
  • Prefer experience working closely with or for a Linux Distribution

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Architect, support and manage OSS/upstream initiatives within the Qualcomm Central Software Engineering (CSE) team of which Foundries is part.
  • Work on, and manage developers working on, OSS including U-Boot, TFA, OP-TEE, the Linux kernel as well as user space stacks and container technologies.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in relevant OSS projects
  • Contribute to code reviews, regression tests, and the triage of issues to ensure the quality of code.
  • Collaborate with high-level representatives from other functions (e.g., testing group, product group, customers) to plan functionality of end-to-end systems.
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences
  • Mentor and build expertise in the Foundries/Qualcomm OSS teams

Pay range:
$180,000.00 - $270,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
