The Role

The role of a Motorsport F1 Applied Vehicle Dynamics Engineer is crucial for the advancement and application of our F1 simulation technologies. You will be instrumental in enhancing on-track performance through dedicated engineering support. Collaborating closely with the race team and other simulation engineers, you will engage in comprehensive performance analysis using state-of-the-art DiL simulators. Feedback from these sessions will be vital for the ongoing development of simulation tools.

Additionally, you will contribute to the refinement of vehicle modeling techniques and undertake studies employing optimal control, DOE, and multi-body lap simulation software tools. A high level of proficiency in engineering software, a proactive approach to teamwork, and a passion for precision in model accuracy and efficiency are essential qualities for success in this position.

What You'll Do

  • Play a key role as a simulation engineer for our F1 partner race team
  • Support the race team and other GM Motorsports engineers in setup and use of Driver in Loop (DiL) simulators
  • Conduct performance based studies using optimal control, DOE and lap simulation software tools
  • Assist in fitment of collected data for the purpose of input to simulation modeling
  • Be part of the broader simulation support team seeking to continuously improve and investigate methods to utilize the simulation toolchain and increase race team performance
  • Deliver as the race team expert, knowledge in the simulation toolchain functionality and modeling practices
  • Represent our F1 partner race team as a stakeholder in the simulation toolchain development process

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering related subjects or equivalent motorsport experience
  • 3+ years of motorsports experience, preferably within a race team setting
  • Experience developing and using multi-body vehicle dynamics simulation tools
  • Strong knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aero simulation modeling techniques
  • Highly analytical, customer focused, and structured, with positive relationship and strong communicative skills
  • Must be a great teammate, be able to work a flexible schedule and possess a high level of integrity
  • This job may be eligible for relocation benefits

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • F1 experience
  • Experience using optimal control theory in a vehicle dynamics context
  • Exposure to modern software development tooling and environments, preferably C#, Dymola/Modelica, and Git
