Job Description

  • This person will assist in expanding equitable access to data by facilitating the accessibility and understanding of Edwin, the client s education data warehouse, to education agencies and researchers.
  • In addition to technical and troubleshooting expertise the role will require a strong desire to investigate, understand, and communicate findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Collaboration with data architects and BI developers is a must as work progresses to expand Edwin and optimize the performance of reporting tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business research analysts to identify data needs.
  • Create and document data marts and queries for business data needs, ensuring that resulting data match existing reports with fidelity.
  • Write and review documentation to contribute to a business rules data handbook, capturing data rules in userfriendly language.
  • Reverse engineer schemas and queries using available tools and methodologies, with the goal of understanding and documenting business rules that are applied in existing data loading processes.
  • Translate complex problems into detailed specifications and design solutions using data processing systems.
  • Create and maintain entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs) and perform database modeling, including logical, physical, and presentation tiers.
  • Provide technical and database support for in-house applications, ensuring optimal performance and user satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the knowledge base, sharing best practices and lessons learned with the Edwin team.
  • Maintain code in GitHub, ensuring proper version control and adherence to coding standards.
  • Accurately and promptly log all work, including estimates and time spent, in JIRA.
  • Facilitate the adoption of efficient coding practices and innovative solutions.

Required qualifications:

  • Understand data warehouse concepts and needs.
  • Expert knowledge of databases, Snowflake a plus, also Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly in both technical and user-friendly language, both in writing and orally.
  • Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills for QA; able to identify errors/discrepancies, isolate the cause, apply solutions and validate the resulting data.
  • Experience with dimensional modeling and knowledge of proper data structures for analytical reporting from an enterprise data warehouse.
  • Good knowledge of applicable data privacy when handling sensitive personal information.
  • Team player who enjoys being part of a supportive team, with a willingness to learn and share knowledge among team members.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience using database reporting tools such as PowerBI and Tableau.
  • Experience using data cataloging tools such as Alation and Socrata.
  • Experience mentoring other analysts and teaching SQL.
  • Confidence recommending policies and procedures to improve database operations and overall computer systems efficiency.
  • Ability to diagram complex data structures.
  • Ability to perform tasks such as analyzing, moving, and loading data, as well as developing T-SQL, PL/SQL,
  • ANSI SQL, or other proprietary SQL languages.
