With principal offices in New York City, Nearwater Capital is focused on providing asset-based financing solutions for its global client base across the US, Europe, and Australia. It is expanding its business and is seeking an organized and experienced Senior Accountant.

Job Description:

The position works within the Accounting/Finance team and is responsible for the day-to-day operational accounting activities of the firm. This individual will be collaborating and working closely with other internal stakeholders to ensure the proper accounting treatment is applied to existing and new business. Additionally, the senior accountant will be instrumental in developing and building out new workflows as the team transitions to new accounting infrastructure.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of daily, monthly and quarterly P&L production and analysis, including P&L attribution.
  • Perform accounting activities related to trading activity, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Verify accuracy of journal entries, account balances, and accounting classifications within various reports related to trading activity.
  • Perform accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts for trading accounts.
  • Preparation of business unit specific, consolidated budgets & re-forecasting processes and ensuring alignment with operating plan, external guidance, and overall financial targets.
  • Production and analysis of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports, highlighting key trends and variances for management.
  • Assure that reports and disclosures comply with applicable regulatory requirements, professional standards, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the month/quarter end general ledger closing process for trading activity.
  • Prepare analytical reviews of financial statements during closing process for trading accounts.
  • Highlight material variances and work with the business and operations to articulate and explain to senior management.
  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment within the teams (operations, trading, technology and accounting) as well as with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Process building and working with project managers to improve efficiencies and streamline processes.
  • Assist with continuous automation and process improvement.
  • Assist with forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Assist with ad hoc requests and special projects..

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience
  • Hedge Fund, Banking, big four or relevant industry experience preferred
  • Investment accounting/financial product experience is required
  • Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines
  • Strong excel skills, ability to work with large datasets
  • Excellent communications skills: articulate, persuasive, and thoughtful
  • A CPA license is a plus
