Position Summary
- Responsible for assisting patients with day to day activities such as dressing, feeding, personal hygiene, transferring to and from bed or wheelchairs, and rehabilitative exercises. Must have graduated from a nursing assistant training program. Certified Nurse Aid (CRN) certificate required.
- Provides basic nursing care to patients under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse or registered nurse (RN).
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Maintains positive and effective relations with co-workers, other departments, patients and visitors.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, respiration and pulse.
- Performs basic nursing procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of simple dressing, perennial care, and urine tests.
- Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, bed pans and transportation.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
- Assists patients who need help with eating their meals.
- Records intake and output of fluids on all patients designated for such observation.
- Answers patient call lights.
- Prints telemetry strips every four hours and provides to RN when completed.
- Verifies that all permits, authorizations, releases and other required forms are included in the patient record.
- Maintains patient records and documents to ensure an accurate account of the patient’s medical treatment.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data. D. Answers telephone, receives and delivers messages.
- Admits and discharges patients with appropriate documents.
- Maintains a clean nurses’ station.
- Assures continuity of care by attending shift huddle from proceeding shift and communicating with RN regarding changes in patient’s condition.
- Assists with audits as required.
- Prepares new admit packets.
- Maintain adequate supply levels in clean utility.
- Set up room for new admits.
- Restocks supplies in rooms including fetal monitoring supplies.
- Assists with cleaning rooms.
Position Qualifications/Requirement:
- Minimum education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred experience and skills: Two years as a Nurse’s Assistant/Aide or Nurse Technician in an acute care hospital.
- Certification, Registration or Licensure: Current CNA license in State of Idaho or compact state, and CPR certification.
- Physical requirement: Walks, lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Lifting, stooping, reaching, hand eye coordination, and speaking.
- Working conditions: Blood borne pathogens; Exposure to patient elements in general. Potential exposure to blood, body fluid or tissues. Contact with patients and their families under sometimes stressful, difficult and unpredictable circumstances.
