Reporting organisationally to the Director, Government Relations & Public Engagement, the Government Relations Coordinator will be a key member of the FIFA26 Strategy & Plannning team, and work in close collaboration with key individuals responsible for delivering strategic and effective collaboration with government entities at the international, US federal, and state and local level to ensure a smooth and successful FIFA World Cup 2026 and 2025 Club World Cup. The position will be based in Washington, DC.
THE POSITION
The main responsibilities and oversights of the Government Relations Coordinator for the FIFA World Cup 26 include:
- Support the Director of Government relations in implementing a comprehensive government relations and public engagement strategy for the FIFA World Cup 2026, ensuring close communication and coordination with relevant stakeholders and functional areas.
- Assist in overall planning and project management, including tracking engagement with key stakeholders across the United States.
- Support with all procurement, logistics, and operational planning for government relations projects
- Manage coordination and communication with key stakeholders, including large meetings or briefings with elected officials or senior-level partners.
- Monitor and track state or local legislation, government policies, or public campaigns relevant to the World Cup or Club World Cup.
- Assist with integration within FWC26 of key federal and local government-related initiatives, including public relations campaigns, community outreach programs, and sustainability initiatives, in alignment with the World Cup and Club World Cups’ goals.
- Support coordination with FWC26 Canada and FWC26 Mexico government relations personnel on all cross-border public-engagement, legacy, and cultural initiatives.
- Draft and prepare presentations, briefings, planning documents and reports to key stakeholders on critical issues for the planning and implementation of both tournaments.
- University degree in appropriate subject (or adequate training/vocational education).
- Solution oriented with a strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
- Positive attitude, patience and persistence.
- Sound judgement and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum 2-3 years experience in government relations, stakeholder management, principal support, or other roles working with senior officials.
- Experience supporting public engagement plans or communications campaigns.
- Preferred background in staffing or managing officials.
- Knowledge of event planning and event project management processes.
- Awareness of the development and integration of outreach and amplification plans.
- Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Visio & Project), planning software and online collaboration tools.
