POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of equipment, machinery, and systems. Additionally, it is the Maintenance Technician is role to ensure Fountain House facilities are kept safe, clean and operate in a dignified manner consistent with the organization’s mission.
Please Note: This is a full-time union position. Monday - Friday 9AM- 5PM.
Salary: $21.84 per hour with an annual increase through 2025 per the CBA.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect and troubleshoot machinery and equipment to identify any issues or malfunctions.
- Performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, light carpentry and replacement of parts.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing problems.
- Reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics to perform repairs.
- Operating hand and power tools and other specialized tools as needed.
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations.
- Performing preventative maintenance tasks to avoid breakdowns and downtime.
- Collaborating with other maintenance staff and managers to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.
- Responding to emergency repair requests in a timely manner.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Inspect property for safety, upkeep and repairs
- Support deliveries from vendors and suppliers
- Perform sidewalk and garden upkeep, collect trash, etc.
- Check functionality of safety systems (e.g., fire alarm).
- Work with a diverse community at multiple sites. Collaborate with workers and others
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be dependable, flexible, proactive, approachable, learn from feedback and take initiative
- Ability and willingness to learn new systems, read technical manuals and drawings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical stamina and dexterity is essential
- Valid NYS driver’s license preferred.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft suite (Emails, Calendars and basic Excel spreadsheets)
- Understanding of the organization’s mission and be willing to work in partnership with staff and members
- High school diploma or GED, required
- 3-5 years of maintenance experience and general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems preferred
- Must be able to obtain certificates of fitness for Fire Guard (FO1) & Supervision of Fire Alarm systems (S95) within the first year of employment
- Other Certificates of fitness in HVAC, Standpipe and Life Safety systems is a plus
- Experience using hand and electrical tools required
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements of the position include the following:
- This position also maintains and checks on a brownstone building and requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs.
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist and reach; will include some standing and walking throughout locations and residences.
- Ability to remove snow during inclement winter weather i.e. bending and shoveling heavy snow and clearing walkways.
- Ability to clear pathways, steps and building entrances. Walkways need to be safely maintained at all times.
- Ability to lift, move and arrange packages and boxes that are 5lb. - 25lbs. and on occasion. ability to move and/or lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
