MCCC Faculty position

Campus Location: Lynn, Danvers

SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $54,820.00 - $59,323.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. General Statement Of Duties

This faculty position requires teaching up to five courses or fifteen credits each semester in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. We seek a candidate who can effectively teach sociology courses or both sociology and psychology. North Shore Community College is committed to equity and diversity, and the Behavioral Science Department plays a significant role in fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment within the college. The successful candidate will be sensitive to a diverse student body with a wide range of academic preparedness and be able to teach in different modalities (e.g., classroom, video conference, hybrid, online asynchronous). Behavioral Science courses are designed for students in transfer programs as well as those in career programs.

In Addition, The Faculty Member Will

  • Participate in departmental planning and curriculum development;
  • Attend required meetings virtually and in Danvers and/or in Lynn;
  • Conduct office hours as specified in the collective bargaining agreement and conduct academic advising and assistance of students;
  • Participate in college service activities in concert with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement;
  • Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomes;
  • Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration;
  • Embrace the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and support the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences, including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, and sexual orientation; and,
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The full-time faculty member reports to the Dean of the Division of Liberal Studies.

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in sociology or closely related field required; Ph.D. preferred;
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations at the college level;
  • Documented examples of curriculum/course development and assessment;
  • Knowledge and experience with learning management systems, such as Blackboard Learn, and the use of video conference and multimedia technology for teaching;
  • Interest in and ability to teach in different modalities (e.g., face-to-face, video conference, online asynchronous or hybrid courses.);
  • Evidence of promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and college service;
  • Well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges, their students, and philosophy;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; and,
  • Satisfactory results on the CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of successful college teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting;
  • Ability to teach both sociology and psychology courses;
  • Experience and interest in teaching Early College;
  • Bilingualism (Spanish/English); and,
  • Predisposition to working in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork.
