Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:This is an individual position that requires strong technical curiosity across many technologies, a desire for technical leadership, and the ability to learn and share with others. This position provides measurement solutions and support in a 24/7 manufacturing facility in Corning’s Optical Communications business to deliver best in class optical fiber to our customers.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering-level production support to optical measurement equipment throughout the facility.
  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
  • Lead and/or provide support for projects.
  • Understand process quality architecture internal/external risks.
  • Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines.
  • Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.
  • Design experiments and analyze data to identify and implement improvements to the measurement systems or production process.


**Requirements: **

  • BS in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics.
  • 2-5+ years’ work experience in systems development, optical test equipment and/or manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of basic optics and optical systems.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical systems.
  • Ability to work in technical project teams in leadership and team member roles.
  • Able to make sound decisions by blending analytical thinking with practical judgment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Data retrieval, plotting and analysis.
  • Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of optical test and measurement techniques and equipment.
  • Experience with set up and alignment of optical systems.
  • Experience with Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Measurement Uncertainty Analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Matlab, Minitab, or other mathematical/statistical analysis tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.

The range for this position is $89,634.00 - $123,247.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
