The Role

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll recruit and prepare volunteers to support ICAN’s mission, as well as develop a pipeline of potential future employees from the ICAN volunteer network. This position will play a crucial role in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers who are passionate about supporting our programs. This position involves coordinating volunteer activities, ensuring a positive and impactful experience, and working closely with staff to integrate volunteers into our organizational efforts effectively.

  • Volunteer Engagement (90%)
    • Coordinate the onboarding process for all ICAN volunteers: application, background check, training sessions and orientations.
    • Collaborate with site supervisors to identify volunteer gaps and create volunteer schedules accordingly.
    • Successfully transition supervision of volunteers to assigned managers during their service and remain the point of contact for volunteers, addressing any issues or concerns that arise and providing guidance as needed.
    • Implement proven effective strategies for volunteer retention and recognition with the support of individual site managers.
    • Assist with the planning and execution of special events, fundraisers, and other initiatives involving volunteers.
    • Develop and implement strategies to recruit new volunteers, including outreach through community events, social media, and partnerships with local organizations.
    • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate volunteer training sessions for capacity building of volunteers and program advancement.
    • Maintain accurate data for reporting and tracking of volunteer/community service, including personnel files and database management.
    • Collect feedback from volunteers and program staff to continuously improve the volunteer experience.
    • Support corporate group volunteer opportunities as needed. This will include customized volunteer opportunities, events and additional needs within the organization.
  • ICAN Ambassador (10%).
    • Serve as an ambassador and role model upholding ICAN’s guidelines and rules;
    • Performs all duties and responsibilities with discipline and accountability.

Requirements

Experience/Skills

  • 2–4 years of experience in volunteer management or related field
  • Minimum of 21 years old and valid AZ driver’s license. Dependable vehicle with proof of current AZ registration and valid insurance. This position requires travel within Maricopa County for in-person recruitment efforts.
