The Performance Cable Systems and Materials Division has been a leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality copper and fiber optic communication cables for over 35 years. Our state-of-the-art facility specializes in the design and construction of advanced communication cables. The PCA Category 5e, 6, 6A, and fiber optic cables are engineered to surpass applicable standards and outperform required specifications for applications such as gigabit Ethernet, 10-gigabit Ethernet, VOIP, and POE+.

Position Summary

Responsible for managing and overseeing the Wire and Cable process, ensuring all production equipment is running as specified, proper tooling is managed, and machine tolerances are within proper specification. Documentation of the process and training of technicians and operators on the process is key to this position. This is an integral position with dotted line responsibility to the Continuous Improvement Team.

  • Oversee equipment to ensure safety, actively participate in and promote Safety Programs.
  • Provide support to Production Department conducting process optimization, process re-engineering, and troubleshooting.
  • Interface with engineering personnel on new product development and materials evaluation while working closely with manufacturing machine operators.
  • Train operators and supervision on manufacturing process.
  • Responsible for managing projects including but not limited to product non-conformance testing, tooling coordination, mechanical/gauge/processing gap analysis.
  • Coordinate with Manager of Continuous Improvement and department managers the execution of process improvements resulting in quality improvements and increased plant capacity.
  • Work with Production Control, Engineering, and the Commercial Team to provide schedules for product development projects.
  • Track new cable samples and ensure products are verified and listed, helping to Introduce products into marketplace.
  • Responsible for process documentation control, including process sheets, SDS, Visual Aids, safety alerts, prototype and research and development files.
  • Possess technical ability to troubleshoot process failures, determine route cause and implement appropriate countermeasures.
  • Coordinate technical training for process technicians and Process Engineers.
  • Aid in mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment and machinery working with Original Equipment Manufacturer(s), vendors and maintenance.
  • Mentor process technicians in the areas of wire drawing, extrusion, twist, cable, tape, braid, lamination, respool, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Manager the plant s total quality program.
  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.
  • Confer with managers and their subordinates and other plant personnel on the application of continuous improvement methods and meeting production standards, and cost parameters.
  • Communicate manufacturing and operations issues, recommend strategies and tactics to enable improved procedures. Participates in long-range plant expansion, conversion, and equipment planning.
  • Provide employee training and development opportunities. Communicate effectively to motivate others to realize their potential.
  • Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervision.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of experience as a Process Engineer with progressively increasing responsibilities within Wire & Cable Industry.
  • Bachelor s degree in engineering hands-on experience in a wire and cable manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Prior manufacturing experience, ideally on a production floor.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Advanced computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office, database programs, with ability to develop knowledge of customized system(s), especially related to manufacturing operations.
