Job Description

The Senior Engineer - Mechanical provides expert judgment, analysis and direction in the development and launch of new technologies, products and systems. This individual is competent across at least two of the company s technologies or product line, and possesses a solid comprehension of complex engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. This role reports to the Engineering Manager but works independently, relying on experience to plan and accomplish goals.

Specific Job Function:

  • Independently design complex products or systems.
  • Independantly develop technical, product, component and process specifications
  • Independently analyze complex design problems to determine the root cause, and then implement corrective actions
  • Perform CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, analyze and utilize outputs to optimize product design and maximize fluid flow efficiencies.
  • Technically competant in the understanding and application of 2-3 Culligan standard product technologies.
  • Posses a solid knowledge of applicable regulatory standards, and insure that products meet the required specifications
  • Independently design test fixtures for new product or component validation and or production
  • Independently develop and carry out test procedures for evaluating the integrity of a product or system
  • Interface with other departments to bring complex products into production
  • Develop and maintain bills-of-materials
  • Develop and present comprehensive, accurate, detailed technical reports supporting testing or analytical analyses
  • Supervise the work of junior engineers, drafters and lab technicians
  • Independently troubleshoot complex mechanical issues at on-site customer locations
  • Perform complex tolerance analyses, knowing when to utilize worst case or process capability data.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in mechanical engineering; Masters of Science in engineering a plus
  • Accreditation in DFSS and DFM is desired
  • 5+ years of experience creating complex 3-D models/assemblies using Solidworks, Pro-E or similar software
  • Able to perform and utilize mechanical design hand calculations (material stress, deflection, forces, moments, fluid flow rates, pressure, o-ring squeeze) for upfront analyses to quickly guide the direction of design work.
  • Adept in the application of FEA & CFD to drive design decisions
  • Comprehensive understanding and utilization of best design practices for an extensive range materials and fabrication processes encompassing: injection molding, blow-molding, thermoforming, casting, machining, forming, bending, ultrasonic welding, hot plate welding, pad printing, etc.
  • Proficient in the functional specification of mechanical & electromechanical components including: pumps, valves, O-rings/seals, tubing/plumbing, solenoids, motors, etc.
  • Experience in the water treatment industry is a plus
  • Up to 10% travel
