Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Hydraulic Engineer to lead and oversee hydraulic design for pipelines and facilities across their full lifecycle spanning planning, design, procurement, construction, and start-up. This role demands a deep understanding of hydraulic engineering principles combined with a focus on balancing function, cost, safety, and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive hydraulic studies and utilize modeling software to design pipeline and facility systems.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to external engineering consultants to ensure that their hydraulic design work meets safety, quality, cost, and schedule standards.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members on hydraulic design and engineering best practices.
  • Drive enhancements to internal and external design standards as a Subject Matter Expert in hydraulics, leveraging project management experience.
  • Collaborate with Project Development Leads, Project Execution Engineers, and other stakeholders to develop optimized designs that balance function, cost, safety, and operational reliability while considering both capital and operational expenses.
  • Lead stakeholder collaborations to ensure thorough review and integration of design details.
  • Ensure adherence to internal and external standards and regional design practices.
  • Identify and manage scenarios requiring hydraulic transient modeling, leading the execution of these activities.
  • Spearhead value engineering and continuous improvement within the System Design group by gathering knowledge, sharing best practices, and implementing lessons learned.
  • Provide leadership, training, and development support to other business units, creating training materials and technical seminars.

Scope of Work:

  • Engage in complex technical hydraulic design tasks, including scoping, modeling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Support the Project Development team by providing specialized hydraulic solutions.
  • Offer expert technical knowledge in hydraulic design.

Internal Communications:

  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders across departments such as PETH, Control Center, Project Development, Project Execution, Infrastructure Planning, Risk Management, Asset Management, and Engineering Services.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences through written and verbal means.
  • Report to the People Leader for supervision, direction, and coaching.

External Communications:

  • Coordinate with external stakeholders, including engineering consultants and third-party customers, as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • The role primarily operates in an office environment, with occasional travel required for training and project support.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and lead hydraulic deliverables with significant impact is essential.

Must Have Qualifications:

  • A university degree in Engineering.
  • At least seven years of experience in engineering design and project management related to liquid hydrocarbon pipelines and facility design within the oil and gas industry.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling and design, including familiarity with SPS and Fathom software suites.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Demonstrated innovation, leadership, and ability to drive change.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical leadership skills.
  • Commitment to coaching, mentoring, and continuous personal and professional development.
