New York Pilates is looking for a Director of Retail to take our in studio and online shopping experience to the next level! Reporting directly to our founders, you will spearhead our retail division, managing all aspects from market research to inventory and production. You’re the ideal candidate if you are a strategic thinker who can identify market opportunities, develop product lines, and streamline operations to drive retail success. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fitness, exceptional product development skills, and the ability to lead a dynamic retail team. This will be a hybrid role based out of New York City as the Director of Retail will be required to check in on studios, their inventory, merchandising, and work with local vendors.

The Role

  • Studio Sales: Manage retail sales across all studios. Responsible for setting weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales goals per studio
  • Vendor Management: Build and maintain vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and source new retail ideas (e.g., beauty, apparel)
  • Merchandising: Monitor trends by visiting competitors for merchandising insights to identify display and merchandising opportunities and standards within each studio
  • Inventory Management: Organize and operationalize retail processes using clear spreadsheets and inventory tracking tools. Allocate inventory based on sales, attendance, and location; maintain inventory lists and visual merchandising standards
  • E-Commerce: Oversee all e-commerce purchases, managing orders from placement, to fulfillment, to delivery
  • Retail Production & Logistics: Collaborate with design teams on product development and production, manage vendor relationships and inventory logistics, and maintain back-end retail platforms (MBO, Shopify) for product details, pricing, and inventory
  • Customer Service: Gather real-time customer feedback through daily studio visits and ensure familiarity with all product offerings and collaborate on customer policies and verbiage
  • Market Analysis & Product Development: Research trends and competitors, suggesting new products and developing SKU strategies
  • Retail Strategy & Sales Growth: Drive sales strategies both in-store and online, adjusting based on sales data and trends
  • Leadership & Financial Management: Lead retail teams, set budgets, analyze profitability, and foster growth

Requirements

  • BA in Retail Management or Business or 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in retail management, ideally within the boutique fitness or wellness industries
  • Proven ability to develop successful product lines, manage production processes, and optimize inventory
  • Expertise in market research, SKU management, and supply chain oversight
  • Eye for design and visual merchandising experience, a plus
  • Demonstrated history in vendor management and negotiations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various teams and personalities

  • $100,000-$130,000 + bonus
