NBME is seeking a Director of Curricular Affairs to join the Competency-Based Assessment unit. This role involves leading strategic initiatives focused on developing skill and behavior assessments for health professions education, enhancing learners' and training programs' ability to make data-driven decisions.

The ideal candidate will possess leadership experience in clinical skills curriculum with a focus on curriculum development, skill and behavior assessment, and program evaluation. The successful candidate will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of health profession's clinical skill curricula, assessment approaches, and curricular strategies, as well as superior written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to network within the medical education community.

This role has been designated as primarily remote, meaning it requires little to no onsite attendance. While this role can be designated as remote, you are offered the flexibility to select if you prefer to work primarily remotely, hybrid, or onsite. We're open to considering candidates who reside in either Delaware (DE), Florida (FL), Georgia (GA), Kansas (KS), Kentucky (KY), Maryland, Michigan (MI), New Jersey, North Carolina (NC), Pennsylvania, Tennessee (TN), Texas (TX), or Virginia (VA).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead initiatives focused on skill and behavior assessment in health professions education, including collaborations with external innovators, schools, and programs.
  • Curriculum Integration: Integrate new assessment approaches into existing curricula to advance skill development, focusing on clinical reasoning, communication skills, and systems competencies.
  • Point of Contact: Serve as the primary contact for curriculum design and progression of skill-based competencies.
  • Collaboration: Work with NBME staff on research and assessment development initiatives and coordinate with the Growth and Innovation team on strategic initiatives.
  • Professional Networking: Leverage professional networks to broaden NBME's collaboration opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proactively create and maintain strategic relationships and represent NBME's educational strategy activities externally.

  • Provide strategic leadership to products and programs.
  • Serve as owner of strategic initiatives, ensuring on-time and on-budget performance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for environmental scanning and strategic planning.

Qualifications

  • Superior written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.

  • Anticipation and creative resolution of challenges.
  • Basic meeting planning skills and ability to work with NBME meeting planning staff.
  • High emotional intelligence and excellent judgment in handling sensitive material.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in clinical skill curriculum with a strong background in medical education.
  • Existing network in health professions education and assessment.
  • Experience with data reporting and accreditation requirements of health professions programs (e.g., LCME, ACGME).
  • Experience in assessment for learning and adaptive learning.

Education

  • Terminal degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD, RN, DO, MD).
