Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual for the role of Coordinator for Language Equality and Aquisition for Deaf Kids (LEAD-K or PA 256). This contracted position will play a pivotal role in engaging families and collaborating with various organizations to support the implementation of PA 256, which focuses on language acquisition and early education resources for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Coordinator will educate families about their rights and responsibilities under PA 256 and facilitate collaboration between agencies to ensure compliance with the legislation's requirements. Additionally, the role will involve planning and executing a LEAD-K conference in June 2025, aimed at fostering community engagement and information sharing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging families to gather input for the development of the parent resource.
  • Educating families on the requirements of PA 256 and assisting in its implementation.
  • Collaborating with the LEAD-K Advisory Committee on the creation and distribution of the parent resource.
  • Serving as a liaison to the following groups and agencies to coordinate efforts in fulfilling legislative requirements:
    • Early On (EOT&TA)
    • MiLEAP
    • EHDI
    • Michigan Alliance for Families
    • Office of Special Education
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of the LEAD-K conference in June 2025.
  • Performing other related tasks as assigned.

This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on early childhood education and advocacy for families with deaf and hard-of-hearing children, while working within a grant-funded initiative.

Contract Duration: October 1, 2024 September 30, 2025

Hourly Rate: $30 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, not to exceed $62,400

Location: This is primarily a remote position, with occasionally required, in-person meeting attendance in Lansing and other areas of Michigan as needed.

Funding Source: This is a contracted position, grant funded by Language Equality and Acquisition for Deaf Kids (LEAD-K).
