Job summary

Under the supervision of the Team Manager, the incumbent will serve as an Assistant Project Manager in Environment for ABS Inc. Their main role will involve overseeing the planning and monitoring required to carry out site environmental assessments (Phase I, II, and III) and environmental surveillance. Additionally, they will be tasked with conducting fieldwork on-site.

Responsibilities:

Assistant Project Manager (60%)

  • Ensure the success of assigned projects, from planning to invoicing, in collaboration with the project manager;
  • Ensure excellent customer service;
  • Plan and monitor ongoing projects (schedule and budget) in collaboration with the project manager;
  • Attend project meetings;
  • Validate and compile research results conducted as part of Phase I ESA;
  • Conduct site visits;
  • Write technical reports;
  • Maintain up-to-date occupancy schedules and project tracking in the internal IC software;
  • Inform the project manager and project director of project progress;
  • Monitor project budgets.
Site Technician (40%)

  • Participate in fieldwork activities (monitoring geotechnical / environmental drilling, tests pits, and geophysics).
  • Perform environmental soil description and sampling according to current procedures and standards.
  • Conduct various tests and measurements on-site, including the installation of wells and various types of piezometers.
  • Groundwater sampling, well development.
  • Draft technical reports for boreholes and daily reports.
  • Coordinate and verify inventory of instruments and ensure proper functioning of equipment.
  • Ensure the success of assigned geophysical surveys.
  • Actively participate in the success and execution of field surveys: noise and vibration control, visual inspections of buildings and structures, ground-penetrating radar, seismic refraction, MASW, sonic logging (CSL), dynamic testing, corrosion potential assessment, wall inclination monitoring (inclinometer), acoustic /optical imaging in drilling, etc.
  • Perform any other related tasks.

Profile :

  • Education: To hold a university degree in civil and/or geology engineering or natural and/or earth sciences.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in environmental consulting, with a focus on contaminated site assessment and remediation.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, including:

Groundwater monitoring and sampling
Soil sample collection and logging
Remedial actions like excavations
Emergency spill response
Quality assurance and control protocols

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of both provincial and federal environmental regulations, with emphasis on the City of Ottawa and Ontario's guidelines.
  • Contaminants: Knowledge of common contaminants; experience with PFAS is a bonus.
  • Site Characterization: Ability to analyze and interpret data from site investigations to determine contaminants and their concentrations.
  • Sampling Expertise: Define the need for sampling, determine best practices, and assess the reliability of the results.
  • Data Interpretation: Evaluate data to spot trends, changes, or signs of environmental stress.
  • Report Preparation: Draft comprehensive site assessment reports that detail potential risks and necessary actions.
  • Communication: Capable of conveying findings to stakeholders, including property owners, regulators, and the public.
  • Driver license: hold a valid driver licence.

Principales responsabilits
    Adjoint(e) charg(e) de projets (60 %)
  • Responsable de la bonne ralisation des projets assigns, de la planification la facturation ;
  • Planifier les tches et faire le suivi des projets en cours (chancier et budget) ;
  • Coordonner l excution des projets sur les diffrents sites ;
  • Veiller la qualit du travail effectu sur le terrain ;
  • Assister aux runions de projet (via Microsoft TEAMS ou en personne) ;
  • Valider et compiler les rsultats des tests sur le terrain et en laboratoire ;
  • Vrifier les certificats de conformit que l entrepreneur prvoit utiliser, vrifier leur conformit avec les plans et devis et fournir des recommandations ;
  • Rdiger et approuver des rapports techniques ;
  • Informer les clients et les suprieurs de l avancement des travaux et maintenir un excellent service la clientle ;
  • Suivre les budgets allous par projet.

    Technicien de chantier (40 %)
  • Engagez-vous et collaborez avec d autres professionnels de l ABS sur place pour exploiter l expertise collective.

Profil

  • Formation : tre titulaire d un diplme universitaire en gnie civil.
  • Exprience : Minimum de 5 ans d exprience dans les essais de matriaux. Appartenance l Ordre des ingnieurs de l Ontario (PEO).
  • Comptences techniques : Exprience de la supervision de plusieurs projets et de la direction d une quipe d ingnieurs de projet et/ou de techniciens civils.
  • Connaissance de la rglementation : Comprhension de la rglementation provinciale et fdrale.
  • Expertise en matire d chantillonnage : Dfinir le besoin d chantillonnage, dterminer les meilleures pratiques et valuer la fiabilit des rsultats.
  • Interprtation des donnes : valuer les donnes et les analyses de laboratoire.
  • Rapport : Rdiger des rapports complets.
  • Communication : Capable de transmettre ses conclusions aux parties prenantes, y compris les propritaires fonciers, les organismes de rglementation et le public.
