Senior Safety Specialist
The Senior Safety Specialist provide essential safety oversight, training, and technical support for large-scale construction projects. Based in Southeast Omaha, this position will play a critical role in enforcing Health and Safety Plans while contributing to a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Provide safety training and technical support, ensuring adherence to Health and Safety Plans on large-scale construction projects.
- Oversee site safety and enforce safety protocols, working closely with the on-site lead, construction managers, project management, and contractors to manage the construction effort.
- Conduct regular safety surveys to identify and evaluate non-compliance with safety and occupational standards.
- Evaluate safety management effectiveness, recommending measures to control hazards and ensure continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Prepare detailed reports, documenting circumstances, actions taken, and recommendations for improving the accident prevention program.
- Conduct follow-up surveys to assess the effectiveness of hazard control measures and management’s commitment to safety responsibilities.
- Perform safety oversight across multiple job sites, ensuring compliance with project-specific safety plans and EM 385-1-1 regulations.
- Develop and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for project activities to mitigate risks and enhance safety performance.
- Investigate accidents, review accident reports, and implement strategies to prevent future incidents.
- Engage with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, regulatory agencies, and project staff, to communicate safety requirements and best practices.
- Attend preparatory meetings for construction activities and assess contractor safety plans and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for multiple projects.
- Provide real-time safety alerts to project officials regarding life safety issues that may require halting activities.
- Input daily safety reports into RMS and update project safety plans as needed.
- Develop and deliver safety training presentations, contributing to the continuous improvement of the safety program.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- 10+ years of experience in construction safety, occupational health, and safety engineering.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- In-depth working knowledge of OSHA and EM 385-1-1 regulations.
- Experience identifying and mitigating health and safety hazards in construction environments, including areas like heavy machinery, excavation, electrical systems, crane rigging, heat stress, confined spaces, and hazardous materials.
- Ability to pass a HAZWOPER physical and wear respiratory protection when required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EM 385-1-1 40-hour training.
- CQM for Contractors certification.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certifications are a plus.
