Medical Chemist, Biological- Level 4
Lorton, VA - Ft Belvoir, VA
Hybrid-Remote Position
EM Key Solutions is seeking a Medical Chemist to Serve as a technical/scientific resource on projects, providing R&D analysis to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Research and Development Chemical Biological Directorate (RD-CBS Division), with emphasis on supporting the development of prophylactic and therapeutic medical countermeasures against known and emerging chemical threats. Provides Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) to the client by applying basic and advanced scientific principles, focusing on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) reactivator chemistry, Organophosphate (OP) agents including Fourth Generation Agents (FGAs), Pharmaceutical Based Agents (PBAs), and other emerging chemical threat agents.
Duties:
- Provides A&AS on basic and advanced scientific principles with focusing on emerging threat agents, Pharmaceutical Based Agents (PBAs), acetylcholinesterase (AChE) reactivator chemistry, and Organophosphate (OP) agents, including Fourth Generation Agents (FGAs).
- Work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state-of-the-art technical or industry knowledge of analytical and organic chemistry and technical project management.
- Provide subject matter expertise to promote planning, coordination, integration, implementation, and evaluation of research projects developing medical countermeasures, considering scientific merit and program priorities; assist leadership with decision-making analysis.
- Evaluates all project technical aspects, including design, development, execution, and implementation of chemical and medical countermeasure research and development, and works closely with researchers to promote technical progress.
- Prepare technical and programmatic reviews and work with multi-discipline technical teams to provide actionable responses.
- Assists leadership with decision-making analysis. Understands capability gaps and assists in setting program, project, and product-level strategy and priorities, ensuring portfolios are responsive and mapped to program goals.
- Prepares technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions, and conclusions of scientific investigations.
- Reviews proposals, technical reports, experimental or theoretical techniques, scientific studies, and statements of work to ensure technical validity and evaluate current and emerging chemical medical defense technologies.
- Provides subject matter expertise to promote planning, coordination, integration, implementation, and evaluation of research projects developing medical countermeasures, considering scientific merit and program priorities.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biology (Cellular or Molecular, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacology) or Chemistry (Analytical, Organic, Medicinal, Synthetic).
- 10+ years of related experience involving the application of scientific principles
- 5 years of experience in related scientific fields, including research
- Understanding of analytical chemistry method development for HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, MALDI-TOF, and SEC
- Pharmaceutical development experience, in vitro/in vivo, and pre-clinical studies
- Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Desired:
- D. in Biology, Chemistry, or related field
- Experience in chemical and biological medical defense as part of the DoD research and development enterprise
- Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamics familiarity
- Experience with the Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) and DoD acquisition policies
- Prior Military experience
- Drug development experience
- Top Secret level clearance with SCI eligibility or ability to obtain
Clearance:
An active Secret Clearance with TS/SCI Eligibility. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
