Draper, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a degreed Manufacturing Engineer. The position will provide engineering support to the manufacturing areas across all assigned product lines and will be expected to become the process/manufacturing owner for all products assigned. The position will also require regular machine troubleshooting, process improvement, and detailed documentation of manufacturing methods and equipment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Process, planning and manufacturing owner for the assigned area(s).
  • Develops and updates process procedures and Visual Routing documentation to ensure that the process is accurate and understandable.
  • Develops working relationships with operational, engineering, and other personnel to effectively work to implement change and assist with development of documentation.
  • Work with operational personnel to improve documentation and training.
  • Coordinates all aspects of a job including tool design, fixture design, machine delivery, prove-out, and run-off.
  • Troubleshoots process problems and identifies solutions which reduce downtime and conserve maintenance costs.
  • Participates in New Product Introduction (NPI) process through multi-functional teamwork with design and manufacturing personnel.
  • Provides detailed documentation of a job including tool and fixture drawings, definition of setup, and operational procedures.
  • Utilizing the ERP to assist with operational routing, BOM, and method of manufacturing issues.
  • Work with the configuration programming department during NPI to identify and setup new products in the ERP. This will also follow implementation to also improve operational information flow and correct errors.
  • Oversees installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Confers with appropriate personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
  • Determines part supply, maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and service schedule required to maintain machines and equipment in prescribed condition.
  • Develops and writes equipment specifications, performance requirements, costs analysis, and justification proposal for integrating machinery and equipment into the manufacturing process.
  • Determines the test methods, procedures, parts, and equipment needed to implement engineering changes
  • Determines the layout of equipment, utilities, and other factors for engineering changes.
  • Interfaces with all levels of management and employees to gather information and provide guidance.
  • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering/Engineering Technology discipline from an accredited university.
  • 3-7 years of experience in manufacturing and/or process engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship building is a must.
  • Strong ERP experience is a plus (Epicor, SAP, Oracle, etc).
  • Experience in manufacturing routing techniques, BOM development, and work center distinction.
  • Strong 3D CAD experience a plus, especially with the Autodesk Suite (Inventor, Vault, etc).
  • This position requires considerable interaction and proactive involvement with all levels in other departments.
  • Requires self-directedness, able and willing to prioritize and take initiative.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems and PLC/controls programming and troubleshooting is a plus.
