Heathrow Scientific, A Great Places to Work company located in Vernon Hills, Illinois is looking for a Senior Buyer to work in the Purchasing department. This position is responsible for purchasing all materials in the most economical sizes, compositions, quality, quantity, and combination, while considering the total cost of usage. The Senior Buyer will also provide guidance in the development of systems and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain responsible supplier relationships with key personnel at each supplier in order to seek out cost reductions, quality improvements and new products.
  • Purchase items from assigned suppliers at the lowest long-term cost for quantity, quality and delivery.
  • Communicate daily with overseas and domestic suppliers to resolve problems, improve service, and monitor production and shipping schedules.
  • Maintain stock levels at or below the required budgeted on-hand inventory value.
  • Review Suggested Order Report daily. Place purchase orders for entire Heathrow product line (except equipment) as needed.
  • Review product categories and bundle items for best possible combination pricing.
  • Obtain lowest long-term cost through negotiation, competitive bidding, and market/supplier knowledge.
  • Analyze and evaluate quotations from potential suppliers. Aggressively seek and recommend cost savings based upon new sources, substitutions, and improved systems.
  • Use the computerized MRP procurement system to revise forecasts and maintain item master.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years purchasing related experience.
  • High degree of problem-solving ability.
  • Strong ability to gather and analyze data, drawing logical conclusions and making recommendations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Excel.
  • Experience with MRP planning system.

Physical Demands

  • Standing (10%), sitting (90%), computer usage (95%) and the ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Some local travel required.
