Locomotive Electrician will work independently or in small team environments repairing and servicing electrical components of various types of locomotives. The Electrician will work independently or in small team environments repairing and servicing electrical components of various types of locomotives.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Inspects locomotive electrical systems, diagnose issues, make recommendations as to course of action and repair/recondition as needed
- Performs all types of preventative maintenance services on locomotives and other Cando equipment
- Perform maintenance and low/high voltage repairs of Locomotive electrical systems
- Track all inspections and repair/maintenance work performed; completes all required logs
- Maintains and cares for all work areas, vehicles, and tools used to perform the locomotive and equipment servicing
- Provides quality customer relations; interfaces with operations teams on site
- Promotes and guides others to understand the daily requirements to effectively service and maintain locomotives
- Diagnose electrical problems using diagrams or schematics
- Install and repair electrical systems
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and conduct tests
- Pinpoint problems using a range of testing devices
- Safely use various hand and power tools
- Perform a variety of functions related to electrical controls, equipment, and wiring
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload
- Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds and to maneuver in/through/around equipment easily and safely
- Ability to meet Workplace Safety & Health standards
- General computer skills with ability to learn new processes
- Hold and maintain a valid driver s license
- Ability to hold and maintain the safety and rail certifications required to access various sites
- Ability to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions with tolerance to fumes and odours
- Willingness to address emergency service problems at any time of day or night
Education & Experience
- Must be proficient with electrical systems and locomotive repairs and maintenance
- Preference will be given to those who possess certification as a Locomotive Mechanic, Electrician and Millwright
- Experience working in heavy industrial environments is an asset
