The State of Michigan is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team as a Technical Application Architect. This role is integral to the Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) Public Health CDC grant, focusing on designing and overseeing technology solutions to modernize public health data systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a technical roadmap for data modernization that aligns with the CDC’s vision and priorities.
  • Architect robust, scalable, and secure data systems for modern public health surveillance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, database management, system design, networking, cloud services, DevOps practices, and cybersecurity measures.
  • Hands-on experience in roles such as software developer, systems analyst, or network engineer.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to lead teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic planning and roadmapping skills to align IT strategy with business objectives.
  • Proficiency in modeling and diagramming tools and methodologies for IT system design.
  • Experience in integrating various systems to create cohesive solutions.
  • Knowledge of security protocols to protect sensitive public health data.
  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies for improved system deployment and operational efficiency.
  • Experience in enterprise architecture framework analysis, design, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of IT information and analytics platforms and products (e.g., DataBricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience in the public or government health industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher education in specialized areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, or enterprise architecture.
  • Certifications like The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Leadership experience in projects involving system architecture.

Additional Information

  • Duration: 1 year with possible extension.
  • Location: Candidates must be local at the time of submission. The position is hybrid, requiring onsite presence 2 days a week. No remote-only option is available.
