This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from January 21, 2025 through June 27th, 2025. Current Salary is $18.67 per hour.


The Audience Development intern will be part of a team whose goal is to ensure that the value of KQED s public media mission extends consistently into all audience-facing touchpoints on digital, primarily across email and social media. The role works closely with the Email Marketing Strategist, and team members across Content, Membership, Product, IT and Creative, to execute strategic campaigns, build an audience-first newsletter and email experience, and help execute day-to-day email marketing needs.

We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.

This role requires working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working in the field. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Essential Functions:
  • Support newsletter development by sourcing digital assets, writing copy, building the email, and scheduling
  • Support social media content program on KQED s main accounts by contributing to the scheduling, sourcing, and creation of content across major social platforms
  • Track, analyze, and measure email performance data against KPIs and share findings with newsletter stakeholders
  • Support optimizing KQED s lead-generation tactics across the website and social media platforms, brainstorm ideas for enhancing sign up experience, and help implement A/B testing with various campaigns
  • Help execute strategic efforts in growing newsletter subscribers
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest email marketing innovations, trends, and best practices and share insights with the Email Marketing Strategist
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to better optimize email marketing strategy and campaigns

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Interest in email and social media marketing
  • Experience editing and writing copy for emails, social media or newsletters
  • Ability to effectively find, collect, assimilate, and analyze data
  • Strong writing skills
  • Willingness to learn and participate
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Knowledge/Experience Desired

  • Experience using an email service provider, Salesforce Marketing Cloud a plus
  • Experience using social media schedule manager, Sprout Social a plus
  • Have experience with workflow apps and software such as Google Docs/Sheets/Slides and Slack
  • Have an interest in public media
  • A sharp eye for design and aesthetics
  • Experience using Canva or Adobe Photoshop to create graphics or other digital assets
  • Curiosity about audience behavior and tendencies across digital platforms
  • Have love for the Bay!
