Client Overview

Our client is an innovative food company, delivering ingredient solutions to their customers. They are seeking an experienced Buyer to join their expanding team.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$38/hr – $42/hr Depending on experience

Position Overview

The Buyer will be responsible for purchasing materials and supplies, reviewing, and analyzing purchase requisitions, and issuing bid requests. The Buyer should possess strong negotiation skills and excellent communication. The Buyer will work directly with the Supply Chain/Procurement team to help streamline the process.

Responsibilities Of The Buyer

  • Handle complex and unique purchasing transactions in compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as institutional guidelines.
  • Review and assess departmental purchase requests for thoroughness and accuracy. Reach out to departments or initiators for clarification or additional details. Determine processing method based on cost, urgency, existing contracts, or competitive bidding.
  • Avoid production delays by ensuring timely availability of all ingredients and packaging materials and follow up with suppliers as needed.
  • Maintain direct communication with production supervisors and schedulers regarding any delays or special situations.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels by aligning purchases with the weekly production schedule and avoiding excess inventory.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts, aiming for better prices and terms; explore opportunities for cost savings using best practices in negotiation and procurement.
  • Ensure timely and precise updates to the MRP system to preserve the accuracy of purchasing records.

Qualifications For The Buyer

  • 3+ years of Buying experience.
  • Experience with MRP systems.
  • Good negotiation skills.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is ideal.
