Job Description Summary
As SubSection Manager for the AP Systems & Flight Test team, you will help invent the future of flight through the design, build, and test of novel engine and integrated propulsion systems. You will also have responsibility for building a world-class systems team and support engine demonstrators and flight test campaigns, always with safety in mind.

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts the team's ability to achieve service, quality and timeliness of objectives. The role is subject to operating policy objectives. There is moderate autonomy within the role. High levels of operational judgment are required to achieve outcomes required.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Management of a team of people covering several DAWs within the family.
  • Manages a medium to large team of senior professionals as well as others. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.
  • Responsible and accountable for financial metrics that contribute at the Section- and Department levels, including (but not limited to): engineering applied hours; training budgets; travel and living budgets; and customer- and internally-funded program support.
  • Responsible for supporting proposal activities that generate new work content for the Section and GE Edison Works business.
  • Responsible for marketing the capabilities of the team and Section to attract a vibrant, diverse pipeline of talent to support the future growth of the business.
  • Responsible for engaging in the growth and development of the team, including (but not limited to): Technical Talent Reviews; Talent Deep Dives; annual performance evaluations; and ongoing career discussions.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Systems Engineering
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active US Department of Defense Security Clearance.

  • Previous experience in engine systems for ground and flight test.
  • Previous experience in leading teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive, timely feedback in the development of others.
  • Member of ASME or AIAA.
  • Previous experience writing and contributing to proposals.
