Role Overview:

The Senior Packaging Scientist, an individual contributor within the Animal Health Pharmaceutical Sciences department, will leverage scientific and technical expertise to drive development projects and innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Packaging Development Support:
  • Provide technical expertise in identifying, selecting, and testing primary and secondary packaging components, drug delivery devices, and filling/packaging systems for various pharmaceutical dosage forms including solids, semi-solids, liquids, and sterile products.
  • Facilitate the development of primary packaging solutions, including injection molding, injection blow molding, thermoforming, and dosing device development.
  • Conduct required testing as per regulatory agencies, including but not limited to package quality, functionality, extractables/leachables, child resistance, tamper evidence, and shipping studies.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art technology and simulations to predict packaging performance and optimize design.
  • Assist in selecting vendors and developing specifications as well as release tests for packaging components.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for packaging and filling equipment at our clinical manufacturing center and support packaging-related clinical manufacturing activities.
  • Collaborate on the scale-up and transfer of packaging technology and systems to the commercial division.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational goals.


Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Lead packaging development for various projects while working closely with Formulation Development and Analytical Development teams globally
  • Share accountability for delivery of the pharmaceutical product portfolio.
  • Interact routinely with stakeholders responsible for the commercialization of new products within our company's Manufacturing Division.
  • Collaborate with key business partners in our company's Research Labs our company's Manufacturing Division, our company's Animal Health, and external development partners, such as Contract Research Organizations (CROs).


Technical Scope:
  • Apply and advance scientific/technical concepts in packaging engineering to resolve issues.
  • Assess the application, sharing, and retention of advanced techniques or processes within our company and other industries.


Science with a Strategic Business Focus:
  • Deep understanding of packaging engineering and development, including characterization techniques, experimental data analysis, modeling, statistical approaches, and first-principle methodologies.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in packaging by attending conferences and reviewing technical publications.
  • Use feedback to ensure stakeholder needs are met consistently, with a long-term perspective in addressing customer issues.
  • Identify future trends and proactively meet those needs through new technologies and strategies.
  • Demonstrate personal drive for results and the ability to deliver on objectives.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain attention to detail, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Mindset to drive innovative packaging concepts and design to enable product differentiation.


Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Packaging, or related discipline.


Required:
  • Strong technical skill sets in a Packaging background.


Preferred:
  • BS/MS/Ph.D. in Engineering or Packaging.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional technical communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of current US and global regulations, ICH guidance, ISO standards, and quality system regulations for pharmaceutical packaging.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected US salary range:
$101,100.00 - $159,100.00
