SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow, the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, at high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware development and manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.

We are looking for a Principal Program Manager (Manager) to join the team.

This Principal Program Manager (Manager) role will play a pivotal role in d riving the transformation in the organization building development processes while also d elivering new server hardware and software technologies at scale that have a significant impact to the business and Azure. This candidate will collaborate with both internal Microsoft teams and external suppliers ( Semiconductor providers, OEMs/ODMs, GPU's, CPU, system, memory, and others) to drive delivery of core technologies , processes that enable our Cloud infrastructure. Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

    o OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years people management experience.
  • 6+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 6+ years experience in leadership function; leading transformation for a global engineering organization through process enablement and driving key metrics


Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 14 + years of technical program management or project management experience or a technical role with systems engineering experience , preferably in Cloud silicon, server design, accelerators , Networking solutions, FW & SW development and deployment, and systems solution s from cradle to grave.
  • 8 + years of experience in managing a team of engineering and/or technical operations professionals responsible for critical systems and operations in a matrix organization.
  • Experience with hardware, firmware & software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system .
  • Knowledge of high-volume server design and manufacturing is desired.
  • Knowledge about datacenters & operation at scale.


Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year. Responsibilities

    • Lead the transformation journey within the PM Org to drive excellence in execution building templates, processes and driving alignment across SCHIE including members from hardware and software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking and datacenter operations for documenting a clear Plan-of-Record (POR) , development checklists, execu tion templates for the product development process.
    • Monitor and measure engineering impact and performance results by tracking key performance indicators.
    • Lead Technical Program Management for new Cloud hardware development. Drive the development, planning & execution of a holistic cross functional product development and/or launch strategy for critical programs . P rovides technical leadership and identify technical risks.
    • Collaborate with internal and external technology development partners to form a cohesive development plan.
    • Have an in-depth understanding of the product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies for establishing an accurate and effective project infrastructure. Leverage experience and engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps and achieve objectives through a cross functional team.
    • Responsible for effective communication and escalation of risks and dependencies while ensuring timely decisions are being made.
    • Hold accountability for team and most or all portions of the work to deliver best in class architecture solutions.
    • Conducts risk management efforts in new product introduction, scenario planning and mitigation of risks, recovery from risks.
    • Communicate to and regularly interact with leadership , highlighting risks across functional teams and providing recommendations to support product level decisions.
    • Operate effectively in ambiguity. Apply process where it creates value, and design process where it's needed. Recognize the situations where each approach is most appropriate.
    • Ensure cross functional alignment: generating clarity, tracking towards development milestones and overall readiness for all new Data Center infrastructure development, launch, and deployments.
