Job Title: Traffic Technology Architect

Duration: 12 months

Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid: 2 days onsite)

Primary Skills:

The client has issued a request for a Traffic Technology Architect to support their Traffic Technology program by leading the development and implementation of projects for advanced traffic systems analysis and traffic control technology. Successful candidates will have 2 - 4 years of experience supporting traffic-related software development and data projects in the public sector (DOT, FHWA, FTA, etc.). These candidates may be Technical PM s that have supported similar traffic implementation projects, or Lead Developers/Architects on those same initiatives.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Perform current state and future state traffic service mapping, conducts gap analysis, estimates and plans delivery milestones, communicate plans and progress, and leads cross-department development meetings.

Manages and establishes priorities for maintenance, design, development, and analysis of entire traffic systems.

Analyzes and manipulates traffic system and application data to review performance, draw unique insights, execute data-driven decisions, and communicate complex data in a concise manner to stakeholders and management.

Minimum Candidate Characteristics:

8 years of experience supporting engineering/infrastructure/IT application and/or system development

Experience leading the development and implementation of traffic-related applications/systems

Responsibilities:

The worker will perform highly advanced traffic systems analysis and development in support of the client Traffic Technology program. Work involves leading activities associated with traffic control technology systems, planning, designing, and integrating integrated traffic control systems; designing, installing, and monitoring traffic technology systems; monitoring and analyzing existing hardware and software in the support of traffic systems; developing policies and procedures; preparing budget recommendations; and evaluating potential traffic system enhancements. Reports to the Infrastructure Traffic Supervisor. Leads projects and works closely with a diverse group of professional and technical employees.

Worker will perform these tasks:

  • Perform current state and future state traffic service mapping, conducts gap analysis, estimates and plans delivery milestones, communicate plans and progress, and leads cross-department development meetings.
  • Leads the creation and delivery of solutions as a Subject Matter Expert; Provides expert guidance to the team on new solutions and designs
  • Reviews proposed solutions to ensure the delivery of a quality product or service to the client.
  • Subject matter expert who acts as liaison between the project user community and IT. Work with client managers to supply proposals and solutions that meet the client s specific needs.
  • Manages third-party vendor and leads, directs, and utilizes knowledge on best practices in areas related to traffic networking, data, traffic device hardware, and traffic applications.
  • Evaluates traffic technologies for potential acquisition and directs the evaluation of various hardware and software resources to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency.
  • Manages and establishes priorities for maintenance, design, development, and analysis of entire traffic systems.
  • Conducts and recommends changes in services, products, protocols, and standards to support development efforts and traffic procurements.
  • Analyzes and manipulates traffic system and application data to review performance, draw unique insights, execute data-driven decisions, and communicate complex data in a concise manner to stakeholders and TxDOT management.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum (Required):

  • 8+ years of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably with major coursework in engineering, information systems, computer science, data processing, or a related field
  • 8+ years of Project development for engineering projects/systems and/or information technology applications/systems
  • 4 years of Traffic applications, signals, and hardware
  • 2 years of Traffic data, analysis, and reporting
  • 4 years of Public sector experience (Federal, State, or Local Government)
  • 4 years of Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to large groups
